Baron Davis 6-3 215 UCLA Baron Davis is currently a sophmore at UCLA. Hes averaging 15 points and over 5 dimes this season. Davis' athletic ability is rare for a point guard. He has above average strength and jumping ability for someone his size. Davis wants very badly to be the #1 pick which means his decision to declare will depend on whether brand comes out in 99 or 00. Strengths-Amazing ball handler and passer. Can beat almost anyone off the dribble and get to the basket. Athleticsm is rare for a point guard. When hes on his game he can also be a shut down type defender. Weaknessess-Injury prone. Not the best shooter around. Tends to struggle from the free thorw line and from the 3 point line. Potential Rookie Ratings.... B- C+ B+ B- C- A

Marion could go #1 as well... Well, with the ratings that are out right now, I don't think so, but If his ratings get better and bdiddys drop, than I could see it happening.

I really don't see why Baron needs to be so good since, you know, he's never been that good.

Dealt for him, went to the playoffs his first year, missed the playoffs his second year (40-42 if I remember right), dealt him for Livingston.

I really don't see why Baron needs to be so good since, you know, he's never been that good. Youve never seen him play everyday obviously because he has some amazing skills for a point guard. He is easily the strongest point guard in the league. Hes probably one of the top 5 defenders at the 1 and probably one of the top 5 passers from the 1. Hes been hurt by injuries, weight gain and a bad attitude, but remember hes only 26. I think his best basketball is still ahead of him.

Everything you mentioned above is extremely debatable. He is a strong point guard, and can post up. He is not one of the top five defenders at the 1. Where you got that, I have no idea. No one views him as such a stud defender. He is not one of the top 5 passers from the 1. Again, where you got that, I have no idea. He is a talented but injury prone guard who has an inflated offensive game (people think he's a big time scorer) because he shoots enough shots that his miserable % is masked by good PPG totals. I don't see how we're possibly going to give a PG that averages 3 TPG A+ handles. As for your original post with his strengths.. if this guy is an amazing passer, well, there are a ton of amazing passers then. His teams are always crap, and he's going to be a franchise player? To be honest, it seems damn biased to me.

Jason Kidd is A/A in handle and defense at age 25. I just can't believe Baron is going to beat that or, if Kidd improves, be on the same level. They're not even close.

I didn't read what Mark said because we've been having this conversation online for awhile, but here's what I'll say.
Baron's teams don't win. He has inflated assists numbers, high turnovers, and just miserable percentages. He's looking like he'll become Fat Lever or Magic Johnson, and he just flat is not that kind of player. He has a bad, bad outside shot, and shouldn't be anywhere near B+ handles to start. He's constantly on the ball and plays with a lot of shooters. His assists don't justify him B+ handles to start.
I won't object to his inside game or defense. But look around at the league, and the draft file. He should be B-/C/B-/B- . He'll still be a stud from day one with those ratings, and they're accurate relative to the league file.
