I think with this new 40 win in 4 seasons rule making its way to the BBS world, we should get rid of the MAX rule.
It seriously makes it impossible to rebuild. Sure draft is good, but look at my team, all the players are pretty much from picks... It'll be very hard for teams to rebuild. I dunno, but I think we should get rid of this rule.

You wouldn't offer anything but one year deals because you were trying to tank. Other teams have rebuilt pretty damn well through FA. I've acquired Odom and Vitaly, two of my best players. Greg just took Dalembert from me. Good players move, and if a team wants to max a guy who they've built around, good for them.

i don't like the max rule because most guys resign anyway. The team stars are on also get the extra year and % increase...they don't need max offers either, as it makes it almost impossible to sign a big FA. However, aaron pwned Duckey

The only reason I offered them MAX 1 year, is cuase they were the best fuckers out there. There was nothing else so I'm not gonna waste fuck on someone like KVH who turned to shit after we actually offered him. You don't know what the fuck your saying. Wow and Dalembert is good now?

I dislike the max rule. Leave FA how it is, if great players leave, then they leave. It just makes it terribly hard on rebuilding teams.

Yeah, I completely agree with Ducky & James here....the FA pool is going to be crap every year...in-season extensions are one of the things I truly dislike.

Curious, what did you offer Odom when he hit the market? Davis? Marbury? VC? Dre Miller? Payton? Add in talent like Sprewell, Potapenko, Grant Hill, Eddie Jones, Jason Terry, Joe Smith, KVH, Ratliff, Foyle and those are the guys who have hit the market the past three offseasons...is that really unrealistic? Tell me we need to change when LeBron, Wade, Melo, Bosh, Hinrich, et al. among young talent aren't signing extensions before they hit the market in real.

Your ignoring the point...it's impossible for REBUILDING teams to get better unless they want to overpay 30+ year old players. Sure there are some good FA's, but almost all of them, if not all, are over the age of 30. Only 2 of the players you listed above[Odom & Dre] are ones that would make any sense for a rebuilding team. The rest are all old and declining, and would take a big deal to sign. In-season Extensions just separate the gap between the best & worst teams...the best teams can keep re-signing their best players without worrying about losing them, and the worst will have to spend 5-6 years drafting players to become a good team...and will lose interest, I know I would. Basically, in-season extensions leave the FA pool full of over-the-hill players who rebuilding teams will not want, and should not want as it makes absolutely no sense for them. The only half-decent player in last year's FA that would have made sense for Ducky was Dally, and even that is a reach, he is a role player...and definitely not worth a max. If in-season extensions are kept, all you will see is more players like Dally get big contracts that they don't deserve, not to mention rebuilding teams continuing to struggle to become contenders.

BBS has operated like this for, what, 30 seasons? And you hit the nail on the head regarding why guys like Ducky struggle in FA. You think Vince Carter, Baron Davis, Stephon Marbury, or even any of those players don't make sense for a rebuilding team? If you have money to spend, there is absolutely no point in trying to get the best players available, and those guys are some of the best talents in BBS. If you won't spend money on a guy because he's above 25, that's pathetic, and you deserve to lose. It wouldn't be realistic or fair if every stud under 25 had to hit the FA market. At all. I'm sure Ducky would feel differently if he ended up losing LeBron and Josh Smith to FA because he never had the opportunity to extend them.

When Did I say above 25? The guys you listed, almost all of them were above 30...there's a big difference between the ages of 25 & 30...25 is their peak, 30 is when they generally start declining.

Also, I'm not saying that Spence should change the rules completely or ban in-season extensions, but to limit how many players each team can do....maybe 1 every 2 years or something.

Why wouldn't you have gone for VC or Marbury three seasons ago? Both were 26. And I'm almost certain you just didn't realize I was talking about Baron Davis, too...four superstars on the market in three seasons. This is really a worthless argument. Ducky's done a miserable job and hasn't been willing to spend in FA. He's arguing out of self-interest. If other guys support getting rid of in-season extensions, I'll never understand why, because the argument has no grounds to it. Doesn't matter if you look at past FA classes in the NBA or BBS, there's no way our free agency classes are either too shallow in general or in comparison to the NBA. It wouldn't be close to realistic if we start seeing Wade, Bron, Paul, Williams, Howard, Yao, JJ, Melo, Bosh hitting the FA market. It would be stupid and it would reward tanking teams with a chance to land two top pick quality players in one offseason. I guess I'd just sit and hope enough guys try to re-sign, but a system that doesn't give teams an opportunity to keep their guys before they hit FA would be bizarre.

Aaron, you do know there are end of season extensions correct? More than half the guys that signed in season max contracts would have accepted end of season offers anyway. FBB already has this built in.

wins were for the taking the last few years in the west... all you had to do was try and you were probably going to win a min of 30 game and could easily have won the 40
you were trying to go to the dj route

1) I was not here 3 seasons ago so I don't know what happened, but I am just speaking from what I have seen in this past FA and looking at the worst teams.
2) When Did I say we should see all of them hitting the FA Market? FBB has it's own re-signings and the majority of the youngsters re-sign anyways, but at least this way there are are always a few good young players for rebuilding teams to target, instead of having to settle for overpaying older players or not bidding at all because it makes no sense for them.

But that doesn't mean they will, and it wouldn't make any sense for the top tier guys off rookie contracts to be hitting FA.

Well, so far in this thread, 5 GM's(Ducky, Inna, Jah, James, Bombers) want it gone, and I only count 1(Aaron) that is defending it...though the other Aaron & GP might like it, can't really tell by their posts.

The max rule is fine, you get one max per season or get one per three seasons, something you could think about wuold really help in many favors. Besides guys who complain about it will not like to see their star player go hit the fa market and lose him to another team. If you guys are so worried about rebuilding why dont you start trading instead of sitting on losing seasons.
