I didn't rely on taking it twice as a security blanket, I just studied the wrong things the first time. I did a lot of writing with my tutor, which was a waste of time. We did no math, and very little verbal. I went in thinking I was prepared, when I actually wasn't at all. As for it impressing the reach schools, that's overblown. They look at your SAT score, I don't think they weight how many times you take it. Or so I was told. But yeah, try and get it done as a junior. I'd suggest (if you're taking it twice), to take it April and June of junior year. That gives you two shots at it, and leaves you the opportunity of taking it a third time early senior year if you need to (but if you're truly prepared, you won't need to). they say taking the SATS more than once does not hurt you at all, it is actually better because you put all your high tests scores together and that is your final score.

I fucking tanked my essay. Got an 8. If I had a 12, I'd be at 780 writing. I'd say get the essay down, because I couldn't think of shit and mine blew. Martin. Luther. King. Seriously, you can 12 it every time by applying ANYTHING they throw at you to him, and then a novel. It's the easiest thing in the world. I can honestly tell you more on AIM later, because the essay was my thing. My tutor told me how to get a 12, I did it every time (except the last time, but oh well, still 12'd it, I'm brilliant) and kept getting 12s. There is a format she claims they love, and well, they did. martin luther king + huckleberry finn + personal experience = 12 every time.

Is it true that the Ivy's expect a fucking 2340 on the SAT's? My councilor told us this today, but I don't believe it, that's absolutely fucking absurd if so. No. With a great GPA, you have a chance at a few Ivy League schools at 2100. But a lot of that has to do with connections, and how impressive your resume is. You want a 2200 to have a realistic shot at an Ivy League school from what I know. I may have the lowest GPA from high school at Cornell... My SATS were a 2110, my GPA was probably 2.8-3.0 out of high school (my hs doesn't calculate GPA), and I had no connections... Albeit I didn't get in for Freshmen year, but they gave me a guaranteed transfer. The key to my application was I had the absolute best interview possible (i found out during the interview, that the interviewee lived in my best friends building, so I knew all of his doormen, and on top of that, he happened to be friends with one of my parents closest friends). I also applied to a very specific school (the Hotel School), and my resume included experience in a hotel and experience in real estate.

Well, my dad went to Penn & knows people there, so that gives me a decent chance I suppose if I want to go there. My first choice was USC to the music business school... My grandfather went there, my aunt went there, and I had recommendations from the Chairman and CEO of Virgin Records, and still didn't get in. Even crazier, my dads godparents were the Pauleys, the Pauley that the Pauley Pavillion is named after at UCLA, and their children still didn't get in. However, I do know a bunch of kids that have gotten into Penn that have no business being in college whatsoever, that only got in because of their parents (CEOs of big companies, former Senators and Congressmen, etc.) so hopefully you don't have my luck.

Yeah, it's definitely far from a lock
My dad got my second cousin into Penn though because of his connections, so who knows.

I think the essay was one question (not totally sure) and just your standard five paragraph essay basically.
