After a terrible rebuilding 2003 season, the Arizona Diamondbacks came into the 2004 offseason with a lot of work to do. During free agency they went out and acquired one of the best hitting, and defensive first baseman in the league, Derek Lee. With this new acquisition the organization seemed to be moving towards the right direction, to try to be once again one of the top organizations in the league. The season had a lot of expectations from fans and it seemed like they had a reason to be excited. The team had gone from an old to a young team in every aspects on the game. At the beginning of the season the organization took it one step further when they traded some of their top prospects in their farm system for the superstar Andruw Jones. They also traded some of their veteran players remaining from their golden years to bring in more young players. “We are a completely different team than we were a year ago” Webb commented on his current roster “Our rotation especially has gone through a lot of changes. Schilling and Randy are the main guys that are not on this team anymore, and our rotation is now a very young and talented.” The D’Backs rotation consists on Webb as the ace, and Valverde, Patterson, Gosling and Garland. The team also made some changes around their lineups. Young players were called up to try to fill in the needs of this organization. Terrero and Snelling were some of the guys called upon to bring in more youth, speed and contact to the lineup. On paper this team is a young very talented team that many people though would make some noise out in the west, unfortunately this has not been the case. The diamondbacks now stand in last place, and have one of the worst records in the league. Now with 102 games left, a historic event has occurred, Nanz “The Nanzanator” Huertas, will not only be the GM of this team but also the manager after the firing of Bob Brenly “Let me tell you something, the job this team has done in the first 60 games of the season is inexcusable. The guys in that club house are playing like the biggest pussys I have ever seen. I mean it seems like they don’t give a shit about what happens out there. I mean come on give me a F***ing break. If your not gonna play hard, your out of here end of discussion” The new manager of the D’backs shows his frustration on the team’s performance so far this year. “We have young talented team with a lot of potential. They need to wake up and play hard, if you cant do that get the hell out of here. This team needs our young pitchers to come through, guys like Webb Valverde Garland, they have what it takes and they need to pitch like they are capable of pitching. Our hitting needs to step it up, Lee, Jones, Terrero, Snelling; come on now swing those bats.” This has been called s a bold move in the part of the organization, but this will hopefully light a spark to the team and will get it going. At his conference the new manager, Nanz, ended the announcement of his “hiring” with these words, “Who doesn’t like this, then F*** off. But come one lighten up, I just like to party, you like to party, I mean we all like to party and to party we have to win. But let me tell you, this team is having baaaaallllll together wer all just living the dream. Don’t think of us as the Arizona Diamondbacks, think of us as the army with harmony.” Later on that night there was a mandatory team meeting called by Nanz. During the meting the team watched Wedding Crashers, followed by Ricky Bobby. What a man.
