Ah, good old summer days in St Louis can only mean 1 thing.....Cardinal Baseball. The Redbirds are looking to repeat as the NL Central Champions, but make a little more progress in the playoffs this year.
A preview of the staff:
SP Ben Sheets SP Chris Carpenter SP Mike Crudale SP Casey Fossum SP Adam Eaton
MR Jimmy Journell MR Steve Kline MR Jose Lima MR Nerio Rodriguez
SU Jason Isringhausen
CL Jose Jimenez
Basically the same staff that the Redbirds had last year, only this year they'll have Carpenter and Izzy the full year. One big name missing is Matt Morris, who was dealt to Anaheim in a late spring deal for RF Jermaine Dye.
Projected Lineups:
SS Edgar Renteria LF Ryan Klesko 1B Albert Pujols CF Jimmy Edmonds 3B Scott Rolen RF Jermaine Dye 2B David Eckstein/Bo Hart C Mike Matheny
Bench Players
C Doug Mirabelli U Eduard Perez C/IF/OF Eli Marrero OF Eric Byrnes OF Brian Buchanan
One thing that Cards GM Matt Carpenter is happy with is the improved bench. Byrnes and Mirabelli were both brought in this spring for their attributes and the addition of Dye moves Buchanan back to the bench so now the Redbirds have some pop off the bench. Also on the bench will be one of Eckstien and Bo Hart, depending on which one isn't in the lineup that day.
New spring means new life, and in St Louis all things are looking up for the Cardinals to repeat as the NL Central Champs and hopefully make their way to the NLCS and World Series this season.
