Los Angeles, CA-- Feeling the need for change, the Los Angeles Dodgers annouced three trades on Thursday, marking new direction for a club that currently stands at .500 and second place in the NL West.
The first deal consisted of six players changing addresses and a division rival as the Rockies and Dodgers connected for a deal involving a former All-Star pitcher and some top prospects.
Leaving LA is pitcher Odalis Perez and Chin Feng Chen for prospects Michael Restovich, Jeff Baker, Chris Narveson, and Nelson Cruz are coming in return.
"We feel we are getting great value for Odalis [Perez] and really feel we are expanding our depth and future with this trade," said Dodgers GM Galo Pesantes.
The second deal sent top first baseman prospect James Loney and pitcher Joel Hanrahan to the Mets in exchange for outfielder Cliff Floyd and first baseman prospect Adrian Gonzalez.
Floyd, 30, is expected to be a cog in the outfield and help out Shawn Green and Jeromy Burnitz in the power department. While Gonzalez is expected to fill the void of Loney until he is ready to step into the big show.
"[Cliff] Floyd is the kinda guy we have been trying to acquire this whole time and finally we got someone that can step in and generate runs. Also Adrian [Gonzalez] should be a great 1B one day and we are happy to have him as well. We wish James [Loney] and Joel [Hanrahan] all the best in New York," Pesantes said.
In the final deal of the day, the Dodgers dealt single A pitcher Franquelis Osorio for veteran pitcher Greg Maddux of the Atlanta Braves. Maddux should be a fine addition to an already veteran pitching staff.
"We are pleased to add Greg to an already great rotation and hope he can help us win more ball games down the road," Pesantes added.
With these moves, the Dodgers hope to not only contend in the present but be able to garner enough resources to compete in the future.
