Kansas City, MO
Kansas City President and General Manager Peter Dell'Olio has announced several trades today. Leaving Kansas City are Mike Sweeney, Angel Berroa, Michael Tucker, Jose Lima, Ken Harvey, reliever Curtis Leskanic, prospects Chris George, Colt Griffin, Chad Santos, and Kyle Snyder. Yes, a long list, but GM Dell'Olio has brought in some new faces such as pitchers Shawn Chacon, Joe Blanton, Chris Reitsma, Mark Hendrickson, Claudio Galva and hitters Scott Spiezio, Ruben Mateo, Ramon Castro, Eric Hinske, Esteban German, and Ray Olmedo.
" The overall focus of our offseason was to reduce salaries and add some disciplined hitters to improve our run production. We also felt that we needed to add some quality pitching and we feel that we have improved our roster going forward. We still have some more work to do, but we are confident with the moves weve made, our team will be competitve and responsible, for the long term." Dell'Olio stated in a press release. A key element is the status of Carlos Beltran, as the Royals will want to sign the star centerfielder long term, we believe these trades were made with that in mind, fully.
The Royals have added some on base guys in Spiezio and German, as well as a future ace in Joe Blanton, all that remains to be seen is the on field results. Opening day will be an interesting one in Kauffman stadium.
