St Louis appears to be primed for another great run this season. When GM Matt Carpenter was asked about the team, he replied, "we had some holes we needed to fill and I feel we've done a good job of doing that." When asked about trading future star Danny Haren, Carpenter replied "What do you think about the guy we got back? Haren is a promising young pitcher, but Ben Sheets brings the same thing to the table and he's ready now, not a couple of years away."
The most recent move may have some Cardinal fans wondering about the future, with the Cardinals blockbuster deal sending not only a few young prospects, but a 2nd round pick in the upcoming rookie draft. Carpenter's thoughts on that were that most of the integral parts of the team were between the ages of 23 and 28, so we've got a few great years in us.
When asked for his final thoughts on this season, Carpenter seemed extremely positive. "We've picked up 4 very good players who can help us right now. If we can survive until JD, Jason and Chris come back from the disabled list, we'll be in very good shape for the remainder of the season."
