well i guess this now brings the issue up:
no releasing players during playoffs? no playoff teams signing players during playoffs? thoughts?

Actually I don't think it would be a big problem. Once a team releases a player they rarely ever want to resign with them during the same season.
Also, why would anyone want to sign him now to a 1 year contract and not be able to extend him? I doubt he'd take a MLC (but could be wrong) so what would the point be?

i don't know, it's not like i thought it out that hard, just throwing stuff out there... i just don't want this exact scenario:
Scrub team and playoff team conspire to stack playoff team. Scrub team release player. Playoff team signs player. Playoff team gains unfair advantage during playoffs.
I could understand if it was like a minor leaguer but Alomar is one of the better players in this league, and I'm not going to allow anything to happen that will cheapen the way championships are won if I can help it.

In this case, it's just meaningless. Alomar being released benefits Chicago... how? The team has no more games left and after the league year is turned, Alomar will be on free agency whether or not he was released. The move can only be harmful to the league.
If I'm talking without sense, please tell me how... I just don't see why I should allow it to happen.

I dont know why james released him when he wont be on his roster anyway when the next season starts. kind of strange.
Though you should not allow this to happen or you could, you should make a rule where nobody can be signed when playoffs start or something I dont know. People should be allowed to release guys at this time that suck or whatever, but nobody should be able to sign them? Im just thinking out loud here, i get your point duce, you dont want scrub teams helping guys win a ring.

Only players that should be released this late are arbitration eligible guys you don't want to pay.
