As we continue to restructure our team for both 2005 and beyond, the San Francisco Giants have agreed to send outfielder Gary Sheffield to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for AAA relief pitcher Elio Serrano, AAA outfielder Joe Borchard, and AA closer Jesse Crain.
Thanks and good luck to Sheff and the Angels in 2005. Sheff had a huge year for me in '04 and was an integral part of the offense, but we are going in a different direction for '05.
Serrano will help to lighten the blow from the loss of Joe Nathan, and Joe Borchard will slip into a backup OF role with some pop off the bench as Jason Lane did last year.
Lane will step into the starting lineup in right field in an attempt to improve the outfield defense.
It's hardly stellar, but the outfield D is now at least average or slightly above with C/B/C ranges in Cruz, Drew, Lane all with plus arms. That's a major upgrade from the E/D/C with E/A/D arms that started in the outfield for me during the playoffs.

I agree. Nice dealing and good luck man.
After the loss of Arods bat, I feel adding a vet bat like Sheff is just what we need. He will find time at DH and OF, most likely starting. With this I think we have a good core of OF and are still a pretty fierce lineup.
Even though he is a FA, I think I can still sign him, so this works out for both. I did like Serrano, but I think i have enough depth in triple a that his loss will not hurt.
