NOTE: This trade is made pending the re-singing of Tony Armas to the 6-year extension offered to him in the Extensions forum. If he does not accept the extension offer, this trade should be considered null and void.
Washington: 1B David Ortiz
Tampa Bay: SP Tony Armas OF Jerry Owens (A) C Brandon Yarbrough (A)

Agreed. Armas would be considerably cheaper than Ortiz, and I think I get good value here anyway.
Hopefully Armas isn't a douche, and accepts the contract offer.

Very excited to get a bat the caliber of David Ortiz into our lineup.
With Craig Wilson being forced into emergency catching duties, it leaves a hole at 1B. Seems logical that if the possibility arose to acquire one of the top bats in the game for that position, that we make a run at it. As you can see, that's precisely what we did.
David's contract is a bit hefty, and that is definitely something we will have to address heading into 2005. But, my park plays well for LH bats, so we expect some monster numbers from the 28 year old Dominican.
In talking to another owner, we discussed that this may be the first time in OOTP history that a player has been traded away, re-acquired, then traded again in the same season by the same team. Very odd.
All in all, this is obviously a huge addition to our club, and one that we hope solidifies our position atop the NL East. Just hope Tony decides to re-up.

If this happens, I think Washington just wrapped up the NL East. Hopefully I've got enough firepower and pitching if I should be lucky enough to meet him down the road in the playoffs....wow.
Nice pickup Bobby!

At the top of the original post, the stipulation is there. Armas didn't agree to any extension offers.
The deal isn't void because I said it was, I was just posting that there so people would know for sure, but I guess that only caused more confusion... awesome.

But yes, because Armas didn't agree to any extensions before the deadline.
