If we plan to keep this league moving forward, and I hope we do. I suggest that we create a rule that any new GM's go under probation for a 2 week period. In other words, no trades until they are in the league for a set amount of time. They can sign FA's. release players, and make waiver claims. They can also post a block.
I just feel that we can gain some certain level of integrity long term.

this makes sense, but I myself remember being more enthusiastic about the league and my team after I made my first trade

well i can agree, but the core members here need more stability.
It makes the league viable.

I agree wholeheartedly with the premise, but let's remember that we don't exactly have potential GM's knocking down our door wanting to get in.
The "Waiting List" isn't 3 pages long.
At this point, I don't think we can afford to be picky.
Just my opinion.

Had you told me I couldn't make any moves with my team for 2 weeks, I would have never joined.
That's the first thing every new owner is excited to do.

I think the two week hold on trades is a pretty good idea. Having just joined myself, I know that you don't know everything about the league right away. Completing a trade right away could just be really stupid. I think that a new GM should get his team in order first, set his lineups the way he likes, organize his minors, etc. before he is ready to make any trades. A two week waiting period would be perfect for a new GM to learn about his team and the league before making a trade.

I think its a good idea, but like others have said, it is not like their are a lot of gms wanting to sign up. We have a couple openings as is, who knows maybe more, not many have posted in awhile. We can not have this type of rule in place were it limits people that just join, nobody will want to if so.

Rule makes no sense. We need guys to come in and care. We need the new guys to be among the most active. Let them get going instead of waiting two weeks while their interest fades.

Yeah, I don't like it. Let them come in and make moves, or they either A) won't join, or B) won't care, and will fall to the backburner. As Bob says, we're in no position to get picky. Let them come in and deal off their franchise player for all I care, because activity IMO is more important than taking a two week period to learn the ropes.

What happens if they come in and make a move just to make a move? Like comes in and deals a franchise player, then 3 sims later when he has no wins he wants to leave? I understand we can't be picky, but I don't want to see a good team lose its backbone because a new GM just wanted to make a trade.

Pretty unrealistic, considering it's yet to happen in this league and most everyone who joined was in one sense or another a new GM. We can't worry about these things when activity is so poor. Trust me.

We know them from other sims/leagues, and have more credibility than that. As is, it doesn't happen anyway. Not something to worry about.

The thing is not many people will want to join if I tell him He can't trade anyone for two weeks.

Were at the mercy of the sim whores Huh? You find me a GM that wants to join this league and is willing to wait 2 weeks before making any trades to improve their team. And, when you do, tell him he gets the Florida Marlins.
