Cleveland Cavalier small forward Delvin Roe captured this season's first Rookie of the Month honors, with averages of 14 points, 5 boards, 2 assists and over 1 steal and 1 block per game. The 21 year old rookie, who was drafted 2nd overall in this years entry draft, is off to a promising start even though his team is struggling out of the gate, going 6-14 over the first 20 game stretch. "It's a tough thing losing," said Roe. "Coach just told me to go out and play hard and eventually the wins will come." Despite the losing, many scouts we have talked to are impressed with Roe's game. Roe, known for a strong inside game, has been shooting the ball extremely well, especially from long range. His ability to knock down shots and contribute defensively has showed off a well rounded game that most thought he didn't have at this point. As one Eastern conference scout said, "the kid has played better than I thought he would... he's better than advertised. He can shoot the ball, score inside and play defense. He does a little bit of everything and has the potential to become a very good player".
The Cavaliers love Roe's work ethic and strong desire to become a great player, which was a big reason why they selected him 2nd overall in the draft. That combined with a good set of skills and athleticism leave many feeling that he has the potential to eventually become an all star caliber player in the BBS.
