GM/Team Grades (Eastern Conference)
Just my opinion, STFU if you don’t agree. West coming soon, probably tomorrow.
Boston Celtics
Kris is a solid GM however one that won’t win a championship in the BBS because he isn’t willing to take that extra step. He had the opportunity to do so with Shaq on his team, however didn’t. He had the opportunity to build a very good young team around Bynum and Dwight, however didn’t. I just think that he needs to decide to go one way or the other and stop sitting on the fence.
Final Grade: C+
Miami Heat
Kevin was lucky that LeBron exploded, even though most of the league saw it coming (I didn’t). They are a team with several different pieces and resemble that of a creation draft team (Duhon, Kidd, Felton, Maggette, James, Webber, Randolph, Arthur). Like many other teams in the BBS, Kevin isn’t pro-active enough to ensure that Miami get a championship in the near future. With LeBron on his team, nows the time to act.
Final Grade: C+
New Jersey Nets
This team is in a worse state now than it was when Skillz was in charge. No direction, no young rookie, no experienced vet (did pick-up Johnson but at a cost), no pick and they simply don’t win. Rommie needs to sit down and literally type out a direction in a Word document. If he doesn’t, the Nets will be travelling along as cellar dwellers for another 5+ years. I guarantee you that there wouldn’t be many season-ticket holders in New Jersey at the moment.
Final grade: D+
New York Knicks
Outlawz said that the leagues reaction to his trade with Dallas made the sim ‘less enjoyable’. All I have to say to him is to grow some balls. Sorry. It’s not because I or any of the other GM’s who didn’t like the trade want to see you fail, or because we don’t like you, however it was an opportunity to see the league level out and to see a very good and very respected GM ‘stumble’ because he didn’t plan things properly. In saying that, he managed to get away with it and everyone commended him on doing so. This season, he needs to deal one of his wings for a big however it looks as though they are currently in pursuit of one.
Final Grade: A
Orlando Magic
Aaron has become very cocky ever since he rode luck to it’s fullest by winning a championship a few years ago. Even if he is putting it on, it does annoy a few GM’s. Now, the Magic are left with Jennings and no first round pick for 2 years which is really going to hurt them. Haberman is a good GM, there’s no questioning that, however he will have to do a really good job to avoid the contract year. He is very pro-active so I don’t see that being a worry for him though.
Final Grade: B
Philadelphia 76ers
Andy had to change his direction a few years ago by acquiring Gasol and Boozer because it was his contract year (or close to it) and the Sixers have faulted since. However, he managed to keep Green and his other young studs together and it has paid off this year as Green, Rose, Lowry and Williams have blossomed. What’s better is that the Sixers are now winning games and look like making a deep run into the playoffs.
Final Grade: B+
Washington Wizards
During my time in the BBS, the Wizards have only ever been a border-line playoff team. They have just begun the rebuilding process and did so in fine fashion by nabbing Victor Claver who had a sensational training camp. They still have their picks and should have a lot of cap room at the end of the year. The rebuilding process has just begun and I hope that Jah takes the time and effort required to build a young winning team. If he remains satisfied with second rate stars like he did during the last era, they won’t be that much of a force in the Eastern Conference.
Final Grade: B-
Atlanta Hawks
Skillz has surprised me during his second tenure as GM in the BBS. I had no faith in him however in the BBS (not the NBN), he has pleasantly proved me wrong and built a solid team that is currently winning more games than it’s losing in the Eastern Conference. Although there is no one true superstar nor young rebuilding piece, the Hawks are enjoying a much needed winning season on the back of Luke Walton, Al Jefferson, Gerald Wallace, Andrie Kirilenko and Anderson Varjeo. With their hard cap woes now out the way, I expect Skillz to continue moving players in an effort to further strengthen his team.
Final Grade: B
New Orleans Hornets
The exceptional play of Okafor, dynamic defensive presence of Ibaka and the sensational play of Williams, Iguodala and Barbosa have made Nova’s GM’ing ability a bit more respectable. He was given a bad team to begin with and because of this, struggled for the first two seasons. He seems to have gotten back onto his feet and steering the Hornets in the right direction. They are winning and doing so in fine fashion. I just hope that Nova remains patient and doesn’t deal away an Okafor or Barbosa just because he has a 1-3 sim.
Final Grade: B+
Chicago Bulls
Although the Bulls should have enough cap to throw around a few max offers, the depending free agent pool will dictate Chicago’s future. The Bulls have two nice young cornerstones in Law and Brewer as well as some other good young players in Green and Lawal plus their first round pick this year. I’d like to see Krup deal Hinrich now whilst he still has a lot of value. As far as rebuilding goes, the Bulls are pointed in the right direction but are lagging behind slightly considering it’s their second year of doing so (rebuilding).
Final Grade: B
Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cavs will finish the year with a truckload of cash and a first round pick, a good starting point for a rebuilding team. They finally have a sense of direction and a hint of a future now that Aar is in control. I’d like to see Aar move some of their key pieces (Brewer, Brown) for some more future picks or youth and attempt to get their 2012 first back. Not having it will hinder their plans in a very big way.
Final Grade: B-
Detroit Pistons
Reily has competed with young players and veterans for a few years now. The Pistons have remained a league wide powerhouse whilst acquiring young studs for the future. Trading for Paul and Bynum were excellent moved and have paid dividend as both players are now amongst the best at their positions. Trading Darko Milicic away was a move I think Detroit would probably retract in hindsight, however with Baron Davis, Ron Artest, Stuckey and Samuels on board, the Pistons need not to worry. Detroit are the best team in the BBS at the moment and are fortunate enough to have the leagues best GM at the helm.
Final Grade: A+
Indiana Pacers
Duce’s rebuilding process was not a favourite move by some of the leagues GM’s, however his faith in LaMarcus Aldridge, stellar play of Gilbert Arenas and DeSanga Diop as well as the acute drafting of Paul Harris and Earl Clark have left the Pacers in good stead. Indiana are winning and have 5 first round picks over the next 2 years. Duces plan to re-construct the winning ways of the Garnett/Duncan era look on track at the moment.
Final Grade: B+
Milwaukee Bucks
Jordan has kept the core of his team in tact for a while now whilst adding the likes of Michael Beasley, Smush Parker, Jason Richardson and Darren Collison. Whenever I glance over the Bucks roster or see them in the standings I always think of them as a poor-mans Detroit; there is no shame in that. If Bosh played to his ratings (A- A A- big man), the Bucks would probably be a league-wide top 3 team. Unfortunately for them, he doesn’t.
Final Grade: B+
Toronto Raptors
DJ has control of my favourite team in the league. They were lucky to land Oden (it’s the lottery after all) and made a great trade to acquire both Darko Milicic and OJ Mayo. DJ has also held onto Greg Monroe for dear life, which is a smart move by all accounts. They aren’t winning and haven’t been winning since their back-to-back but this shouldn’t worry them as in 2 years time, when all of their players develop, they will most likely be the best team in the BBS.
