The New Orleans Hornets, Detroit Pistons and the Seattle SuperSonics are at the top of their conferences. The Hornets and Pistons both stand at 5-1 with the Sonics off to a 7-0 start.
New Orleans has a great shot blocking duo up front. Emeka Okafor has been a monster for them averaging 24 points, 13 rebounds, and nearly 3 blocks per game thus far. Serge Ibaka is averaging a double double with 10 points and 12 rebounds while blocking over 3 shots per game.
The Hornets have Marvin Williams at small forward who has put up monster numbers. Averaging 30 points and 10 rebounds. The backcourt gives their frontcourt plenty of help with Andre Igoudala scoring 20 points per game and point guard Leandro Barbosa averaging a double double.
The Detroit Pistons have lots of talent as always. They have plenty of quality bigs that can block a lot of shots. There team seems to be led by their backcourt that stars Chris Paul and Baron Davis. Paul is getting 26 points per game along with 10 assists while Baron Davis is scoring well over 20 points per game. Teams have not been able to stop this dynamic duo. Ron Artest has struggled to shoot the ball but he still is putting up solid numbers and once he starts shooting the ball better watch out.
It will be interesting to see if these teams can stay a top the East. The East is loaded with talented teams as always, especially in the Central. The Central has just two teams below .500, The Bulls and Cavs. Once the Bulls get healthy they should start to win again though. It will be very tough to stay a top the Central division alone for these two teams as they will have a lot of competition however they are off to a nice start so far.
The Seattle SuperSonics have had no problems scoring the ball. They currently lead the league in scoring with 120 points per game. With Dwyane Wade, Ricky Davis, and Danny Granger they are really tough to stop on the perminter and then they have Eddy Curry and Jermaine O'Neal down low makes them even tougher. They can score from anywhere on the court.
As of right now it looks like the Sonics are the class of the West but there are still some quality teams out there to watch out for.
Should be interesting to see how everything turns out.
