It all started as the draft was underway. The Pacers' GM contacted several teams, trying to move up to get their man. After many rejections, Paul Harris was finally selected just a couple of picks in front of Indiana. It was a disappointment but the situation worked itself out as Harris was traded twice since being drafted, and eventually landing in Indianapolis. Projected as a starter from the get go, Harris wasted no time impressing. He put up a solid 13 points and 7 rebounds per game, while playing great defense in his rookie season. He seemed to be the perfect role player for the team. His efforts continued into All Star weekend as Paul led his rookie team with 16 points and 8 rebounds. He became the second Pacer rookie in as many years with such an impressive performance in this game, following Al Horford. Unlike Horford, Harris was not able to win the Rookie of the Year being in a more productive class. However, he did crack the All-First Rookie team and was an important piece to an Indiana squad that made a huge improvement from their previous season. In the future, Harris figures to likely start at either shooting guard or small forward. His defensive ability and his efficiency are a great asset to the team. With a year under his belt, we should see a bit of an improvement in his sophomore season.
