1. Chicago Bulls vs 2. New York Knicks
This game has everything that you could want. The Bulls are trying to win their second straight championship while the Knicks are trying to get to their first finals. The Bulls are hoping to be the third team in league history to repeat as champions. The series features four of the top ten players in the league and could be the start to the leagues biggest rivalry yet.
PG Manu Ginobili vs Tony Parker
Tony Parker wins this argument on talent alone. He is unquestionably one of the leagues two best point guards. However, he just came off of an injury that has had him out for quite some time. The injury will not affect his play, but it could hurt the team’s results. Will the Knicks be able to make the right adjustments on the depth chart? Don’t be too fast to sell Ginobili short. He is one of the best systematic PGs this league will ever see. He may not have the talent edge, but he does have the experience.
Advantage : Knicks
SG Joe Johnson vs Jason Richardson
Joe Johnson could be a number one scoring option on many teams. Johnson could be an all league defender in any given year. Jason Richardson should be a number one scoring option, but he's certainly isn't anything close to an all league defender. If JRich can overcome JJ's defense and average 28ppg then the Knicks have a great chance at winning the series. I don't see that happening and I don't see JRich stopping JJ with less then 18 in any game.
Advantage : Bulls
SF Dirk Nowitzki vs Shane Battier
Shane Battier should not be starting for a team with the caliber of the Knicks, but they lack another player who can provide the defense for them. Dirk will dominate this matchup. The Knicks are just hoping Battier may be able to slow him down in a game or two.
Advantage : Bulls
PF Elton Brand vs Samuel Dalembert
Elton Brand is arguably the best PF in the league. Samuel Dalembert is a hell of a defender, but he can’t be compared to Brand. Brand’s offensive production may be hurt, but he is too big of a force to not give the Bulls a big time advantage at the PF position.
Advantage : Bulls
C Marcus Camby vs Yao Ming
This is the same story as PF. Yao Ming is possibly the best center in the league. Marcus Camby is a great defender, but is no match for Ming. It is going to be interesting to see which of PF/C combos prevails in this matchup.
Advantage : Knicks
Bench : Bulls backups vs Knicks backups
This is a very close matchup. Both teams backups provide very different things. The key backups for both teams play C/PF, but the SG/SF matchup may be more important then the big men.
C/PF Rasheed Wallace vs Vladimir Stepania
Sheed is a great defender and above average scorer but he can’t rebound, and in this series that is going to be an important. Stepania can rebound and block shots much better than Sheed and for that reason I give him the advantage.
SF/SG Luke Walton vs CJ Miles
Walton is the ideal backup for the Bulls in this position. Miles is an excellent outside shooter but that is all that he really provides. Walton does a lot of things that the Bulls need, and I don't think Miles does anything the Knicks need.
PG Joe Johnson vs Chris Duhon
When coming into the league Duhon was supposed to develop into the ideal backup PG. That’s sounded great at the time, but now that warrant you a first round pick. Johnson is obviously playing out of position but he has a lot more talent then Duhon.
Advantage : Bulls
This is close in terms of depth, but the Bulls have more players that do what they need then what the Knicks do.
Series Predicition : Bulls in 6
The Knicks have the advantage at what most feel are the two most important positions in the game. However, the Bulls are loaded at the other three and have great role players in the PG and C positions. The Knicks will be the team to beat this time next year, but the Bulls are the team to beat now.
