The moment has finally come. The Chicago Bulls are the BBS champions.
The trophy just arrived today in Illinois for the parade and the fans are ecstatic. They watch in amazement as MVP Elton Brand holds the trophy high above his head and waves to the fans with a smile. Manu quickly grabs the trophy from Brand, another great player in this playoff run, including a triple D in the conference finals, to all but seal a series against the NY Knicks.
But how did they accomplish this feat. Well a key aspect of the season was the acquisition of Joe Johnson. They felt there was a need to fill and they went out and got it. 60+ wins later they were Central Division champions and the playoffs began.
It started with a fiesty Cavs team which almost gave them a scare, taking them to 7 games, but the veterans like Elton Brand and Rasheed Wallace guaranteed a game 7 win and they came through with flying colors. This was followed by the matchup anticipated for the entire season, Bulls vs. Raptors. The two GM's had been jawing at each other all season. But it was Krupimpski who got the last laugh, winning easily and leaving the two-time champ DJ empty-handed this playoff year. He then continued onto another fierce team in NY, with Tony Parker and Yao Ming. This is where Brand really had a coming out party against them with several 20+ rebounding games. Ironically in the game Manu had a triple D, he wasn't even POG, a mockery to Bulls fans, but they ignored that and went on to win the series in a nice fashion. Finally they faced the Warriors, easily the best West team. It looked like a close battle to start, but then a major injury of Baron Davis, basically sealed the deal. Chicago won the next 3 at home and was champions.
And now, speech time.
Brand: This is a great moment in my BBS career. I would like to thank all the fans for their support. The team got hot when it needed to and we accomplished what we were looking to do, win a title. Chicago Bulls fans are the best fans in the world, thank you.
Ginobli: I'm speechless. This team just gelled great at the right time. We would definitely not be hear without contributions from all of my teammates, including even the jokester himself, Elton. I'm so happy that I'm crying.
Johnson: I'm so happy. I couldn't ask for a better situation. I got traded from a struggling team to a title contender. I have so much respect for all my teammates who all chipped in to lead us to victory. I would also like to say, Chicago you are the best city I have ever played in, thank you.
Wallace (Fiery voice): We are the champions my friend. (boom boom). And we'll keep on fighting til the end. (boom boom boom boom). We are the champions, we are the champions. No time for losers cause we are the champions...(boom boom)...of the world.
The fans leave the parade, happy and crying at the same time. The memories of the year this team had will last for a life-time. They truly feel like they were a part of this championship run.
