With Shaq gone, does this team have what it takes to pull off another series win?
In the series versus the Indiana Pacers the Detroit Pistons were put in a tough situation down 2 games to 1 in Indiana against a raucous Pacers crowd. The Detroit Pistons fans were starting to lose hope at having a chance for another title run and realized that the injury bug always seems to hit them this time of year. The tension was building as the players entered the court without their leader Shaq, just a spectator on the bench.
Then, a new leader emerged, his name, Lebron James. GM Reilley decided, to play T.J. Ford off the bench in order to log Lebron James some minutes at the point guard. The devious and clever move worked perfectly. Lebron James carried the team on his back averaging 22.7 pts 6.2 rbds and 9.1 assts over the last 4 games of the series.
The defensive monster named Tayshaun Prince logged big minutes. He played great defense as well as chipping in on the offense. In addition Elson has served as a great defender with 4+ bpg a night in place of the injured Shaq and also with the injury to Theo Ratliff before the postseason. Darko andCV combination has helped to add some more scoring along with solid defense.
So down 2-1, they took gm 4 and gm 5 going away. Then they suffered a tough defeat in Indiana in game 6. So it was up to the Detroit Pistons to toughen themselves up for GM 7 at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
The Pistons fans were on their feat as the game was about to start. The Offense for the Pistons fans was clicking on all cylinders in the first quarter, however, their lackluster defense allowed Indiana to stay in the GM. They were leading 33-27 at the end of 1 quarter. In the 2nd quarter their defense stiffened up a bit and they increased their lead to 13 at halftime. In the third quarter they basically maintained their lead as Lebron James could feel the energy of the crowd, as the quarter ended and with 1 quarter left they lead by 16.
So with 1 quarter to go, the fans were on their feat. Looking to make the miracle comeback a finished thing. The Pacers managed to make a run cutting it to as close as 3. But then, their leader Lebron James took over the game with 4 assts and 2 pts in a 10-0 run that extended the lead back to 13 and basically stopped any hopes of a comeback from the Pacers. The fans celebrated as the Pistons were headed to the 2nd round. Ballons flew down from above. GM Reilley was ecstatic and gave a huge hug to Lebron James, saying to him "You carried our team, you are a true leader."
Next stop, NY for a matchup with the Atlantic Division winner, the NY Knicks. TP and Ming combo looks lethal on paper, but can the Lebron James show have a Part II to its act and lead the Pistons to a matchup with either Chicago or Toronto? Will there be a sequel to this story? Tune in for "Part II: The Miracle Story."
