Strengths:
All-around scoring-We have good scoring at every position and have plenty of talent to go around. With David West and Penny Hardaway giving us big production off the bench, any of our top 7 players can make a big difference in a game and could go off for 30+ in a game.
Defensive Pressure-We force lots of turnovers every game and led the league in that category. All of this pressure starts up front with Defensive 1st teamer PG Leandro Barbosa. As the only player to average over 3 steals per game in the league, Barbosa ignites both our offense and defense.
Weaknesses:
Lack of big-time scorer-While we have good all-around scoring, we lack that superstar player who can dominate a game in crunch time. While it hasn't seemed to hurt us too much, it's definitely our weakness but we can also make up for it with one of our strenghts.
Lack of shot blocking-We don't get many blocks per game ever since we lost PF Eddie Griffin to FA last offseason. Raef Lafrentz and Kenyon Martin man the inside and do a relatively solid job of getting a few blocks, but neither can record as many blocks as Griffin would (around 3.0-3.3). This is the one place we're looking to improve in the offseason.
Franchise player:
Leandro Barbosa-As mentioned earlier, the "Brazilian Blur" ignites our offense and defense. He does everything including grabbing around 5 boards per game. I easily could have put Gordon or Martin here, but Barbosa is definitely our choice here.
Team Outlook:
Coming into the season, the general manager was on the hot seat to win 40+ games. However, with the team assembled, members of the organization were hoping for much more including the playoffs. As of now, we brought home 44 wins and made the playoffs as an 8 seed. We are currently in a series with the #1 seed Chicago. Currently down 2-1 in the series, we are hoping to claw back and pull out the stunner!
