This is J with this week's Fact or Fiction. I got to take a few minutes to speak with DJ and Nova.
#1:
Chris Paul will be a BBS hall of famer?
DJ: Fiction. Achieving Hall of Fame status is extremely difficult which is why very few are able to reach that level. While Paul is a remarkable talent, the odds are against him. However, he is a legit franchise player and should be an All-star for most of his career.
Nova: Fact. As a rookie, Paul is already putting up very solid numbers, and he has 10+ great years ahead of him. He should be the premiere PG in the BBS for the next decade, and it wouldn't shock me if he is a perennial All-League 1st Team Selection several times throughout the course of his career.
J: Fact. He's a walking triple D. He is similar to a Kidd-type player, but can score. If you put up 20+ ppg and 10+ apg over your career it should be automatic that you get in.
#2:
Dave (D2A) should be fired at the end of the season?
DJ: Fact. Based on the new rules, it appears that he is skating on thin ice. He hasn't been able to field a 40 win team in over 3 seasons and it looks like he won't reach that mark this year either. He has made an effort to retool but the moves he has made havent panned out. Trading Tony Parker was a major faux pas.
Nova: Fiction. While his team is a mess, I think he should be given a chance to fix it. The team has several solid veterans, and if he's smart, he should deal them off for younger players, 1st round picks, and expiring contracts.
J: Fact. Dave this year has made more questionable moves and the team is going in the wrong direction. I could cut him slack if he was a playoff team but his record has gotten even worse this year, a lotto pick for sure.
#3:
Ducky should be fired at the end of the season?
DJ: Fiction. He is currently a .500 team in a weak western division and has a chance to make the playoffs. He has acquired some nice talent and is definitely moving in the right direction. However, trading Lebron James was a highly questionable decision and it may come back to haunt him.
Nova: Fiction. People can criticize him all they want, but all things aside, if you look at his team, he has incredible talent all-around. He has assebled a very talented, young team as his starters are 23, 28, 19, 24, and 25 respectively. His bench is also very solid, and he still has two 1st round picks to add more youth. Sure, he probably overpaid in some deals, but if you look at the team he's assembled, there is no reason he should be fired.
J: Fiction. Ducky gets a pass. He made a questionable trade, big deal. He still has great youth to look forward to and it seems that recently the team is starting to mesh well and have great chemistry.
#4:
Sigs are overrated?
DJ: Fact. Unless they have partially (or fully) nude women(especially asian), they are a waste of time.
Nova: Fact. Their nice, but I don't get all the hype.
J: Fact. Sigs are pointless.
#5:
Mark should be the next GM, if a spot opens up?
DJ: Faction. If he is the best available, then yes.
Nova: An assistant should get the next spot, they've been around, they've contributed to the league. Mark is a good GM, but he should have to earn his way into the league like every new GM does.
J: Fiction. You should not just be allowed to jump back into the league and get a spot. Also, there are qualified people, not including myself, that can fill any openings nicely.
I appreciate the contributions from these two and thank them for a few minutes of their time. This is J with "Fact or Fiction."
