As of now, the Chicago Bulls are in 1st but, things can change in a heartbeat. This will analyze the top 4 teams in the conference and why each has a chance to take home the trophy and also areas for improvement on each team.
Chicago Bulls: A team with 3 possible MVP candidates in Brand, Manu and Dirk. Along with that the core consists of the blocking stud known as Marcus Camby. In addition, Rasheed Wallace as a scoring threat comes off the bench to chip in a nice amount of points and some blocks during crunch time. Luke Walton does the intangibles as the backup to Dirk which finishes the solid bench that Chicago has. If they can avoid any big injuries, they will make some noise.
New York Knicks: Acquiring Tony Parker was the best thing that GM Outlaws could have done. He is not only put up 10+ assts per game but also over 20+ ppg. Yao Ming continues to be a force to reckon with inside and one of the candidates for MVP as well. Ben Wallace provides them with that defensive presence alongside Yao. Cassell is a nice serviceable backup to parker. In regards to the Knicks, the wingmen and SG positions are a bit lacking and could cause some troubles down the line.
Indiana Pacers: GM Duce solidified the scoring last season by acquiring veteran Micheal Finley. So far this season the teams seems to be meching well. In addition Grant Hill has solidified more scoring options at the SF position and has played extremely well. In regards to TD/KG, they are just putting up their usual numbers and sometimes are unstoppable. What lacks from the team though and may be troublesome is the lack of bench production.
Detroit Pistons: In the deal of the year, Detroit may have upped its chances at another title run, when they acquired the youngster Lebron James, adding more depth to his team. Tayshaun Prince has been a solid scorer in addition to being the defensive beast that he is. Jason Kidd, basically is a walking triple double and Shaq continues to be a great inside scorer. In addition Detroit has nicely developed youngster darko in addition to adding a piece like Brad Miller. Also, Artest is playing great. With this team I would worry possibly about old age getting the best of them.
This wraps up an analysis of the current top 4. But who will come out on top come season's end?
