In 1998 The Atlanta Hawks hired General Manger and coach William Bendernagel. After the expansion draft this gm put togehter a team of young promising stars and a team captain in Gary Payton. They would go on to game 7 of the first round of the playoffs where they would lose a heartbreaker.
They would go on to trade captain Gary Payton in order to get shareef Abdul Raheem, Some religous beliefs and some personal differences would make this relationship a short one. Since then the Hawks have had a mediocre lifeline and it was brought down from the board of directors that a change was necessary. They said That Gm Bill Bendernagel had 1 more year to show the world that the Hawks could be a contender.
Since that time there has been a complete oover haul oof the team blending young prospects like Jared Jeffries with superstar Jermaine O neal and veteran Zydrunass Ill Gauskas. Team captain Donyell Marshall who has been a staple of the Hawks for a number of years has stated that he doesnt mind coming off the bench if it means winning.
After the recent aquisition of sg Ricky Davis the Gm had this to say" If I'm going down I'm not going down without a fight. In the end if the result is no better than I'll finish my tenure with the Hawks the same way I started it. With a beer in 1 hand and a cup of jack and coke in the other.
Can the Hawks a major underdog in the Ceentral division turn it around . It is hard to say but one thing Is for sure At the end of the season there will be some change.
