1(1) - Elton Brand (CHI) -
With a career year under his belt, Brand will win his first BBS MVP award. He ranks 4th in league scoring, 5th in rebounds, 1st in blocks , 2nd in FG% among starters and 3rd in FT's attempted. His team currently has the 3rd best record in the league with a shot at obtaining home court advantage throughout the Playoffs. He's developed into a complete player and at the age of 25, he looks to be a future hall of fame candidate.
2(2) - Shaquille O'Neal (DET) -
Speaking of Hall of fame talent, Shaq has had another MVP calibur season. Often overlooked because of the expectations placed upon him, Shaq's dominance of BBS continues into his 30's. O'Neal will once again lead the league in FG% and will finish the season among league leaders in scoring and in rebounding. While he won't give you the defensive stats of an Elton Brand or Ben Wallace, his impact on the defensive end is, like himself, huge.
3(3) - Kobe Bryant (LAL) -
Can't talk about MVP candidates without mentioning the leagues top scorer. This season, that honor belongs to Kobe Bryant. The numbers speak for themselves, 30.8 ppg on 49% from the floor. Kobe has the Laker's in position to win the West and to secure home court advantage up to the Finals. This may rank as Kobe's best season to date, but unfortunately, he only finishes third on our list. No need to worry, another Championship might ease the pain.
4(4) - Dirk Nowitzki (CHI) -
An outstanding year for Nowitzki as he teamed with Brand to form one of, if not the best, duos in the league. Dirk will finish 2nd in league scoring at just under 30 ppg. His shot attempts were down this season, but his performance was as efficient as ever. He continues to be one of the leagues best 3pt shooters, and also showed his all around game by rebounding, passing and playing solid defense. Dirk's defensive performance improved from previous years, as he averaged a career best 1.5 blocks to go along with 1.7 steals per game.
5(-) - Tim Duncan (IND) -
Duncan steals the 5th spot away from team mate Kevin Garnett, with a strong second half performance. Duncan is 9th in scoring, 2nd in rebounding and 7th in blocks. He's also tied for the league lead in FT's attempted per game. Duncan is a model of consistency and like Shaq, his performance is often under appreciated due to lofty expectations. Another standout season for the Big Fundamental.
