The Blazers franchise has seen very little success in its tenure in the new BBS. It has had one, I repeat, one winning season where the team had 47 wins and 35 losses. The rest have been a pile of mush. During that solid year, GM Dan Basone had Steve Nash, Larry Hughes, Ron Artest, no power forward to speak of, and Erik Dampier; A well rounded team, which would definitely still be competing today if together. But being the impatient gm that he is, he thought that going after players to fill his frontcourt would be most important. In a deal that comprised of basically Ron Artest for Joe Johnson and a pick which later turned out to be David west, GM Basone still was not impressed with his team. In a series of unraveling events the young Blazers organization went straight to the pits once again as Basone dealt off every piece that was part of his one year success story. It was a drunken triad one night after Pig beat him 5 times in a row in NBA 2k7.
It has been three seasons since that awful night, and the Blazers are finally looking to turn it around once again. This time Basone has fell into the same trap as he did before. He has all great young talent at the 1, 2 and 3. With Star point guard Starbury Marbury, Jason Richardson at the 2, and barely legal Luol Deng. This team has the potential of being a very dominate force in the upcoming seasons in the West; it is just a team in need of some front court help. Will Gm Basone lose his wits once again or will he gain composure and lead his team to its third playoff appearance. We were unable to reach Basone for an interview due to him saying “fuck off” every time we asked. This is Mark Kelley reporting live from Portland.
