The Chicago Bulls were always very high on Manu Ginobili as they traded up in the draft to draft him with the 7th overall pick. Players chosen before Manu were Baron Davis, Ron Artest, Tony Parker, Michael Redd, Lamar Odom, and Kenyon Martin.
Manu was a starter in Chicago from day 1 as he was slotted at the SG position. Chicago never really heavily relied on Manu to score with Elton Brand and Jamal Mashburn taking on the scoring load so coach Krupimpski thought it would be a great idea to really make Manu focus on passing the ball. "Passing and defense were everyday words in practice." Manu exclaimed. The Bulls really looked for Manu to be the perimeter defender the bulls lacked in Jamal Crawford. As Manu became a great passer from the shooting guard position averaging over 4apg a game over his first 3 seasons. Now it was time for Manu to develop his offensive game and he really made it a point to stress on his 3 pt shot. "Being a non focal point in our offense I know I sit on the the perimeter and it would be important for me to knock down 3pt shots when I was open so I took 1,000 3 pt shots everyday." Manu said. This season he is shooting 46% from 3 which is a career high.
When the Bulls traded away Terrell Brandon for cap purposes it was known that Manu would take over the PG position. At 6'6 he is taller than most PG's and he is really a tough matchup. This season Manu has flourished in his new position as he is leading the league in assists per game with an average of 10.5 while only turning the ball over only 2 times a game. He is also 2nd in the league in steals per game with an average of 2.7 times a contest. Manu is having an MVP type season being the motor to the most effective and efficient offense in the league. Manu is also averaging the most ppg of his career getting 16ppg. Manu's new position is really nothing new at all as he's been preparing for this change since draft day.
