BBS is one of the most highly competitive and active sim leagues around but like a chain it can only be as strong as it's weakest link. As BBS 2.0 enters into its 7th season amidst the daily discussion on the boards has been, "Should some GM's be fired due to ineptly running their franchises?" Thoughts around the league vary, as some GM's feel its more about having fun sccepting mediocrity while others feel if you can't hack it you should pack it.
A GM is measured by first and foremost his activity. Usage of posts, response time to PM's, off season activity. Second is the GM's coaching ability. Usage of DC, strategy, player acquisition, competence of salary cap. Third is results. Winning is something that needs to be accomplished sooner or later. Teams will always fall but GM's should be judged on their rise after they fall. If they fail to rise we will see their demise. Eventually we will all be judged on one thing and that will be, the result.
Here is a look into the weak links
It has been said he is one of the better GM's in the league proving himself in other leagues as a successful coach and manager however he has shown poor judgment early on and he's paid for it dearly. KG had a very dominant team in the first three seasons of the league sticking all his eggs in one basket in an unsuccessful quest for a championship while sacrificing his near and distant future in the process. Vince Lombardi once said, "
The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will." KG really lacks the will as he has failed to acquire 1 upgrade in the last 5 seasons. He was eligible for an upgrade article and failed to do so as well back in 2000. Sure he dug himself into a hole but if he stopped trying to climb out then its time to bury KG.
One of the senior members of the league Keelty, age 29, sure doesn't like to post pad. Most GM's complain about his activity as he's rarely on aim and unlike Andy, AIG, and Ducky he isn't on the boards all the time to readily answer PM's. Kris shows great patience in his team and is in no hurry to put him self in a sacrificing position for the sake of winning for the moment. He has three 50 win seasons under his belt in the Veteran era of the league and managed to ride out Karl Malone for every penny(no pun intended) he was worth. It will be very interesting on how long it will take the Celtics to return to glory a top of the Atlantic division. His inactivity in the trade market may hurt him as the longer he holds onto Jamal Mashburn the more his trade value decreases and he might rot in Boston much like Malone. Keelty knows how to skate on thin ice better than anyone but how long before the ice finally cracks?
His only direction is lack of direction and fans are growing tired in Memphis. D2A has been on double secret probation dating back to the old BBS but has managed to keep his head above water. His team direction has gone from playoffs to rebuilding to playoffs as he trades his youth for vets and vets for youth. The Grizzlies are easily the least successful team despite being in a dreadful conference and even more abysmal division. His lack of knowledge is evident as he used a comp recommended DC for the majority of the season last year without any adjustments to try and change his losing ways. His recent trade with Lumley might have bought him some time but then again once and while every squirrel finds a nut.
Bottom line is if you aren't fired with enthusiasm, you will be fired with enthusiasm!
Honorable Mention: Greggor, Bender, Basone, Pig
