Steroid usage among young college and even stemming into the high school game was becoming a growing epidemic as Dwayne Wade, a player who tested positive for androgens but this knowledge was not made public due to the players association but was leaked to the media by unnamed sources, saw much success in his first season winning a BBS title and MVP honors in following seasons. It pays to cheat and for some of these players basketball is their only ticket out and if that means taking steroids by all means. In 2002 we saw another draft class explode onto the scene.

Carlos Boozer B+ C- D+ C+ B

Caron Butler B A- C+ B- C
Nene B D+ D- B- B
Tayshuan Prince B- B C+ A C+
Josh Howard B- B C A- C
Gerald Wallace B+ C C- A C
As you can see by the ratings this draft class is the most strong we have seen yet. This draft featured 3 players that had the opportunity to land #1 in Carmelo Anthony, Yao Ming, and Amare Stoudimire. Aside from those three players who were guaranteed studs this draft featured some interesting players. Boris Diaw a small forward by trade has better handles than PG Chauncey Billups?!?!? Andrei Kirilenko who is a player who lacks offensive prowless but is so valuable in part by his superb defense has a lesser defensive rating than the likes of Tayshuan Prince, #8 pick, and Gerald Wallace,#10 pick. Caron Butler has better handles than Allen Iverson and is just as balanced of a scorer. The inflation is evident by the common steroid usage and the problem has only habitually gotten worse lets look into 2003.

Leanardo Barbosa C+ A- B+ B+ C-
Anderson Varejao B D+ C B- B
The 2003 draft featured the most premiere talent the league has ever witnessed in Lebron James but Lebron has maintained his feelings on steroid usage as he said test me and he has taken over 20 private testings to show he has not taken steroids and his tests have all come back with negative results. Others in this draft class have also stated their displeasure with the steroid usage Chris Bosh, Emeka Okafor, and Ben Gordon have all stated that it ruins the purity of the game. However it has been reported that TJ Ford has tested positive for amphetamines on several occasions in college and this is why he left the college game to join the pros because he was eligible for suspension under NCAA rules. Leonardo Barbosa said that drug usage is prominent in Brazil and he sees nothing wrong with using amphetamines. If one person can do it why can't everyone. Amazing how this 21 yr old exploded onto the scene and has surpassed everyone in BBS with his blazing speed and his ability to be under control while moving at rapid speeds. Reports are that Darko has started to use a form of androgens in his workout routine that could start to show results within a season or 2.

Marvin Williams B C C B C+
Charlie Villanueva B C+ C C+ B-
Hakim Warrick B- C- C- C+ C+
Devin Harris B- C+ B- B+ C
What to make of the 2004 draft class? This is by far the youngest top 10 the league has ever seen and the talent looks very promising. Howard is the clear cut talent of the class as he will be one of the biggest studs in the league. The other players all seem to posses good overall talent which is scary due to the fact most of this top 10 is 18yrs old. Part of their game that should be their weak points is pretty strong. The leaping ability by the entire top 10 is just amazing in comparison to players in years past and as a whole they their interior game is just strong. Why's that...steroids.
Be on the look out for...
Part 3 which will be the following day we will take a closer look into Bestco the pharmaceutical company which is linked in the steroid scandal.
