1 - Detroit Pistons
Possess the most talent in the league. Superior perimeter defence. Nice mix of talented youth and veteran leadership. Shaquille O'Neal is still a force inside and Jason Kidd is arguably the best setup man in the game.
2 - Toronto Raptors
The defending champions return with their core intact. Arenas, Butler and McGrady form one of the better scoring trios in the league. Strong interior defence.
3 - Los Angeles Lakers
Led by the leagues best player. Bryant appears to be more focused than ever and ready to make a charge at another championship. A balanced squad that can play in the half court and on the break. Not the deepest team but very talented and dangerous in a 7 game series.
4 - Miami Heat
Imposing front line. One of the bigger squads around. Strong interior presence on both sides of the court. Gasol has turned into a top 5 talent. In the right system this team is a serious contender, although depth is a concern.
5 - Philadelphia 76ers
Dirk is healthy again which means the 6ers are back in contention. Intimidating front court that can defend and score. Nowitzki should be a serious MVP candidate. Hart has become a quality point guard but the rest of the backcourt leaves much to be desired.
6 - Indiana Pacers
Led by two All league talents in Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett. Strong front court. Interior scoring and rebounding are a major strength. Perimeter play is adequate but may be the teams' achilles heal in their quest for a title.
7 - Golden State Warriors
Led by the best backcourt in BBS. Wade and Davis are both capable of dominating games by themselves. They are an explosive tandum that can score inside and out, and that have the ability to make their teammates better. Strong on the wing but thin up front.
8 - Houston Rockets
Another team with an excellent front line. Jamison and Fortson are both 20+ scorers and Chandler has developed into one of the games premier defensive centers. Their point guard situation is solid
but there are some questions concerning the off guard spot. Daniels appears to be ready to become a starter but is untested.
9 - New York Knicks
The development of Hinrich and Yao have turned this team into a contender. Veteran guard Ray Allen will be counted on to provide scoring punch while new addition Antonio McDyess should bring toughness and experience to the interior.
10 - Washington Wizards
A solid team from top to bottom. Walker appears to be in great shape and Pierce is an all league talent every season. They are steady inside and Snow provides toughness and heady play at the point. If they can develop the right chemistry they could be a legit threat come playoff time.
