of the LA Clippers.
At the creation on the BBS league the Pistons took home the first BBS crown as Aaron Reilly looked like he was going to keep his reign over the league. Then gold struck out in the West as the LA Clippers would emerge as a powerhouse winning back to back BBS Championships under the helm of coach Galo.
The first win came as a surprise breaking the heart of young coach Aaron Haberman of the Orlando Magic as the Clippers won the series 4-1. Galo seemed to have the winning formula with Jason Kidd leading the way past Allen Iverson and the Magic.
Galo would continue to make moves to change the face of his franchise parting ways with Jason Kidd and bringing in Sam I am Cassell to run the point in Hollywood. Even with all the questionable moves Galo still led his team to another Championship game beating the Wizards in 6 games.
Galo got hungry for a third championship and brought in many different faces. Galo's face was all over Hollywood as he was the biggest star in town. Shopping sprees on Rodeo were free everyone wanted Galo in their gear as everyone loves a winner. Not too many people looked inside the workings of how the Clippers made their rise to two championships but rather did what all of Hollywood would do, look at whats hot right now. When in realization the Clippers did a worse job planning for their future than MC Hammer did.
The Clippers future really looked bleak and they did their best to put all their eggs into one basket, the 2004 draft. The Clippers traded off all their talent to do their best to try and land the worst record in the league to win the Dwight Howard Sweepstakes. The Clippers finished with the worst record in the league by a landslide. The lotto came and everyone awaited for the announcement of the Clippers landing the #1 pick but unfortunately they made that announcement all the way across the country in Boston. The Clippers wound up with the 4th overall selection.
Even with the bad news of not landing 1, 2, or even 3 the Clippers would try and make the most out of their draft as they had the 8 and 10 selections as well. So at least they could have a good core for the future of their franchise. As Borat would say, "NOTTTTTTT" Galo decided it would be best to inherit two max contracts from fellow Pacific team Sacramento Kings. The Clippers dealt the 8 and 10 overall selections for 28yr old PG Andre Miller and 23 yr old F Andrei Kirilenko. Sure the Clippers wouldn't be able to acquire a talent like AK with the 8 or 10th overall pick but these two players now occupy half of the Clippers cap space.
With the 4th overall pick the Clippers stretched and took a raw talent in Al Jefferson some who thought would be available at the 8 spot. The Clippers would pass on bigger prospects as Josh Smith, Marvin Williams, and Devin Harris. So now the Clippers have 2 max players and a raw rookie talent to go along with 20 mil in cap as their future til 2014 which is the next time they have their own pick. At least coach Lumley has two rookies to look forward to along with veteran talent to hold him over to 2013 which is the next time they'll pick.
The Clippers could have established themselves with three young players to build around while having 40mil in cap space to be big time players in free agency for the next few seasons to land themselves not just a max type player but two max type players. Conceivably the Clippers roster could have had 18 year olds Josh Smith and Marvin Williams to go along with 21 year old Devin Harris. Now thats a future! They would have had this and 40 mil and change to work with which they could have landed the services of Lamar Odom or even set themselves up for the upcoming year with all the 2001 draftees hitting the market.
Instead the Clippers thought it would be a better idea to acquire diminishing center Brad Miller, who is also under a max contract and underachieving forward Rashard Lewis who also has a hefty contract. This leaves 4 starters all making more than 10 mil a piece which is over the cap and leaves them without a SG. Oh yea remember 4th overall selection Al Jefferson, yea he packed his bags already as he was shipped off in the deal for Lewis and Miller.
There is hope though as the Clipps do have the rights to the crosstown Lakers' first round pick in 2007 and the Sixers first round pick in 2012. Until then the Clippers will turn their hopes to Andre Miller, Rashard Lewis, AK-47, and Brad Miller for the next 10 years none of whom have ever been a #1 option.
Hollywood loves their stars and Hollywood loves whats hot but ask MC Hammer what happens when the money runs out....
