Team strengths:
The addition of Chris Webber was huge for this team, giving us a nice balance of an inside/out game and a post presence we haven’t had since his departure. However, clearly this teams’ success will still rely on the backcourt play of Mike Bibby and Larry Hughes, who form as one of the strongest backcourt duos in the league. This year we also have a lot of depth and versatility. Van Exel should be a nice scoring spark off the bench and this team is deep up front with plenty of bigs who can get it done defensively and on the boards.
Team weaknesses:
Though things look good on paper there are still a lot of concerns about this team. The lineup still isn’t fully complete as we are in search for a starting Small Forward, Aaron Williams will be playing there out of position, which will be tough for a bigger guy to guard the league’s premiere swingmen. Also, Chris Webber had a decline in his scoring and defensive abilities, his age is starting to catch up with him.
Franchise Player:
Larry Hughes
Has pretty much been the main guy this team has been built around, along with Bibby, since this franchise has taken a different direction. He’s easily been one of the most productive 2’s in the league the last few years and does everything you ask of a player. Can score, handles the ball very well, very good defender, can also rebound, and is just an efficient player all around.
*Trade Block*:[/size] Really looking for a starting 3. Can deal Van Exel + one of my bigs for one depending who it is, got a couple good/solid ones. If you’re searching for a point guard or big man and have a starting quality SF talk to me.
Season Outlook:
This year we’re really looking to take that next step and be a legit contender in the West. Though we’ve won 50 over the last 2 seasons we struggled to find consistency and didn’t really consider ourselves being on the next level. We overachieved and made it to the WCF just a couple years ago, but hit the exits in the 1st round last year. The addition of Webber should be big this year, and this is the first season I’ve really felt we can compete for the #1 spot out West, so we’ll see how it goes.
