Team Strengths: We'll be led this year by a group of excellent swingmen. Jamal Mashburn, Walter Hermann, and Josh Howard are a very good trio of SFs that will carry much of the load for us this season. Josh Howard had a nice TC which will hopefully lead to more consistent offensive production this year.
Our other strength will be #1 overall pick Dwight Howard. He's going to get some good playing time as a rookie, though I'm going to keep expectations low about what he may contribute right away.
Team Weaknesses: Question marks are mainly at PG and C this season. Macijauskas had a nice TC, but I'm not convinced he's quite ready to start. He'll get first crack at it, though, and if he stumbles, veteran Damon Stoudamire will fill in. At Center, Reeves and Thomas will see the bulk of the time. Eventually, Dwight might end up as our Center, but probably not this season. If Reeves and Thomas aren't effective, it's possible Dwight will go to Center with Hermann stepping in at PF.
Key Players: Definitely Mashburn and Josh Howard. Dwight will be our centerpiece in the future, but I think he's no more than a 3rd or 4th option this season. Hopefully he'll surprise me.
Outlook: We flirted with the playoffs for much of last season, but fell short. Our talent has been upgraded, though I think our weakness at PG may keep us from getting into the playoffs this season. The league is pretty light on elite PGs right now, though, so maybe it won't be as big a hole for us as I think it might be.
Trade Block: If a move is to be made, it's likely Hermann will be the man to be shopped, either for help at PG or C. It'll take a couple of sims to really grasp where our holes are this season. Dwight, Mashburn, and Josh are likely to stay put for the foreseeable future.
