(1) - LeBron James (DEN) - Showed a consistent offensive effort throughout the year. Carried the offensive load for his team and still managed to shoot well from the field as a rookie. 47% overall, 80% from the line and 42% from downtown. His passing ability was as advertised (4 assists per game) although the 3.6 turnovers a night suggest he was forcing the issue at times. Great building block.
(2) - Kirk Hinrich (NY) - Back to back Rookie of the Month awards. Hinrich has played well all season and looks to be leading the Knicks into the playoffs. 8 assists, 2 steals and 46% shooting show he has an all around game that should get even better over the next few seasons. Also shot 38% from 3 and 85% from the FT line.
(3) - Tj Ford (SEA) - Got better as the year went on. Much more efficient scorer than many thought he would be. Shot 45% from the field and 42% from downtown. Averaged 7 assists in only 28 mins. Showed defensive ability and took care of the rock for a guy considered to be turnover prone.
(5) - Chris Kaman (NY) - Another player that seems to have gotten better over the season and with increased playing time. After Kenyon Martin was dealt, Kaman become the starting big next to Yao Ming and performed even better than as a sub. His shooting % is now a solid 48% and he has contributed over 7 boards a game. Defence is what he will need to work on to get to the next level.
(-) - Leandro Barbosa (NJ) - New to the top 5. Barbosa hasn't seen the most action as a rookie but that should change, now that he has been dealt to New Jersey. Barbosa has proven to be an efficient scorer, shooting 48% in 20 mins a night. In limited mins, Barbosa has managed 1.3 steals per game which suggests good defensive potential. Also shot over 40% from 3pt land.
