- LeBron James (DEN) - The 18 year old phenom is off to a blistering start, averaging 23 ppg on 52% from the floor. Scouts expected James to struggle with his shot from deep in his first season, but he is proving all the naysayers wrong, hitting at a 38% clip from downtown. James is also showing that he is more than just a scorer, grabbing over 7 boards and dishing out 4 dimes per contest.
- Anderson Varejao (NJ) - The 10th pick in the draft is playing like a top 3 pick. Varejao is averaging 15 ppg and 9 boards on 54% shooting. Most scouts thought Varejao would be a defensive presence from day one and a work in progress on the other end of the court. But, Varejao is proving that he has a more refined game than many thought. His ability to pass the ball has been especially impressive.
- Raja Bell (MIL) - This undrafted rookie signed with the Blazers in the offseason and was then traded to the Milwaukee Bucks after only a few short weeks of the regular season. Bell is proving to be a solid pickup, averaging 12 ppg on 45% shooting. He's knocking down 43% of his 3pt attempts and is shooting 82% from the FT line.
- Kirk Hinrich - (NYK) - The Knicks grabbed themselves a nice building block when they drafted Hinrich with the 6th pick in the draft. "Captain Kirk" is a very intelligent player who possesses a nice stroke and good playmaking skills. He's averaging 10 assists per contest, which is good for 4th best in the entire league. He is also contributing defensively with 2 steals a night and shooting solid percentages for a rookie point.
- Chris Kaman (NYK) - Another Knick rookie that is off to a solid start. Kaman is averaging 10 and 7 on 50% shooting. As expected, he is showing a polished post game and capable defensive play. Kaman will see plenty of action this season and could be thrust into a starting role if the Knicks pull the trigger on a deal involving vet pf Kenyon Martin.
