Just a season before last, the Phoenix Suns had the worst record in the entire league. However, with new management coming in, they were looking to do one thing, and that was win. Acquiring Mike Bibby and Larry Hughes late in the season, it was clear to the fans in Phoenix that this team wanted to compete the following year. Burned by the lotto, instead of having the #1 pick which they were projected, which could have been Carmelo Anthony, Yao Ming, or Amare Stoudemire, they ended up with Carlos Boozer instead. Sure, there was a lot of dissapointment in this city considering what they could have had, but they took it in stride and focused on what was ahead of them. Adding pieces such as Theo Ratliff and Joe Smith to complete the lineup, they were well on there way to a successful season, as they reached the 50 win mark for the first time in franchise history. Though they struggled to find consistency in stretches of the season, they were able to put together a solid playoff push, winning in the 1st and 2nd round against Utah and Houston in 5 game series’ a piece. There season finally came to an end as the Lakers took care of business in 6 games. You could say overachieved, although most the teams in the West were pretty much on the same playing level and it was a toss up come playoff time, but regardless, the Suns never expected to get this far, and will only try to build on it. Hopefully they continue to make progress throughout the off-season and try to return there again.
