(1) - Yao Ming (Ny) - With three Rookie of the Month awards under his belt, Yao looks to have the ROY title all but locked up. With averages of 24 ppg and 9 rpg, Yao has shown the ability to dominate the interior both offensively and defensively. He needs to improve on his efficiency from the field but his overall production was steady and impressive.
(2) - Carmelo Anthony (Mil) - Melo is currently second in rookie scoring, averaging better than 24 ppg. He showed he isn't just a scorer, pulling down better than 7 boards per game and dishing out 4 dimes a night. His efficiency suffered as the season progressed, especially from 3pt range. Expect Melo to really shine once he gets more help around him.
(5) - Caron Butler (Tor) - As a starter, Butler has proven to be the most efficient rookie scorer, shooting better than 47% from the floor. He has also shown consistent 3pt range, knocking down 41% of his attempts. His overall game was better than expected as he grabbed 5 boards and notched 3 assists per game. Also took care of the rock, averaging fewer than 2 turnovers.
(4) - Carlos Boozer (Pho) - Boozer was a steady performer throughout the season, averaging 16 points and 9 boards per game. He showed a nice touch at the FT line and from the field, shooting 46%. Low turnover player. He is definitely a threat to be a 20 and 10 performer in the future if he continues to work on his game.
(3) - Amare Stoudemire (Lal) - A late season trade landed Stoudemire in LA where he continues to lead all rookies in rebounding at 9.9 per contest and in shot blocking, at 1.8 a night. His offensive efficiency isn't where you'd like it to be for a big man but he has shown the ability to produce in a number of areas and has just as much potential as anyone in this rookie class.
