(2) - Yao Ming (Ny) - His recent 50 point outburst helped his team to a win over a very good Jazz team. Yao is now the leading rookie scorer, averaging 24.6 ppg. His rebounding has been solid and he is also playing good defense, averaging over a steal and over 1.5 blocks per game. Scouts love his mid range game and ability to knock down his FT shots(86%).
(1) - Carmelo Anthony (Mil) - Slips to number two in this installment. Melo continues to show he can score the ball, dropping around 24 ppg per night. Melo is also showing a well rounded game, rebouding and sharing the ball with his less than stellar teammates. His shooting percentage has dropped as the season has progressed, but considering he has to carry his teams offensive load, it's understandable.
(4) - Amare Stoudemire (Ind) - Continues to play well on one of the top teams in the league. He leads all rookies in rebounding with over 10 per contest. His defense has been a pleasant surprise as he's blocking 2 shots a game, which also tops among rookies.
(3) - Carlos Boozer (Pho) - Just shy of averaging a double-double, Boozer's strong play has helped propel the Suns to third place in the Pacific division. He is his teams third leading scoring, shooting 46% from the floor. He's also showing a consistant mid range game which many scouts didn't think he would have this early in his career.
(-) - Caron Butler (Tor) - Acquired mid season for sharp shooter Michael Redd, Butler has flourished as the starting small forward for the Raptors. He is averaging 15 ppg on 46% shooting. He's also showing a consistant stroke from beyond the arc, hitting just under 40%.
