- Carmelo Anthony (Mil) - This smooth scoring 1st year forward has been lighting up the league over the first few weeks of the season. Melo, as the kids like to call him, is averaging 25 ppg on 45% shooting. He's shooting a sizzling 48% from behind the arc and is showing a well rounded game, dropping 4 dimes and grabbing 6 boards per contest. He's basically a one man show on a team that's just starting to rebuild, so look for him to continue to fill up the stat sheet as the season wears on.
- Yao Ming (Ny) - The 7'5, 300 lb man from China is already impressing scouts across the league. He's averaging a double-double, dropping 22 ppg and to go along with pulling down 10 boards a night. He's also proving to be an intimidating presence inside the lane, swatting over 2 wannabe buckets a game. Yao is also shooting a fantastic 88% from the FT line. His shot selection and FG% are his only drawback at this point but this should improve as he gains experience.
- Carlos Boozer (Pho) - The surprising Phoenix Suns are 10-5 on the year and Boozer is big reason why. In the offseason, Boozer trained like a madman and got into the best shape of his life. It's showing on the floor as this rook is grabbing 10 boards a game while providing his team with a steady interior scoring presence. He's also a capable FT shooter, hitting 77% from the line. Carlos doesn't offer much defensively at this point but the best is yet to come.
- Amare Stoudemire (Ind) - STAT is proving to be a worthy #2 selection, averaging a double-double, with 15 points and 10 boards per contest. He's also showing more defensively than many thought by blocking just under 2 shots per game. He relies on his athleticism to a large degree and this leads him to throw up some very difficult and ill advised shots which hurts his FG%. But his future is very bright.
- Gerald Wallace (Uta) - This super athletic wing is off to a hot start, shooting a blistering 67% from the field in over 20 mins per game. As a sub, Wallace's stats won't be good enough for him to seriously contend for ROY honours, but if he keeps playing the way he has, his efforts are definitely worth mentioning.
