Before this season, the Suns were a fairly respectable team and known for having success as they have made the playoffs all 3 seasons. However, the organization made some very questionable moves and decided to blow it up in the off-season, trading away franchise player Chris Webber, and more, which led to the firing of the teams’ old GM. Now, under new management, the Suns hope to make another turn, but this time, in a positive direction, and they have wasted no time doing so.
Currently, they have the worst record in the league by far, and will probably barely reach double digits in the win column by seasons end, which isn’t much of a surprise looking at the roster they’ve had to work with. But with the recent moves that were made to acquire guards Mike Bibby & Larry Hughes, the fans in Phoenix have a lot to look forward to heading into the off-season, especially when the team currently has the projected #1 pick.
Who will be the answer for Phoenix come draft day?
Talent like this doesn’t come cheap though. The Suns have sacraficed part of their future, which included dealing 2 of there picks in the next couple seasons. But after adding a potent 1-2 punch in the back court, along with the projected #1, the team feels they will be ready to compete as early as next year, although they have no choice, and be a leginimate threat in the Western Conference for many years to come.
With that being said, the Suns aren’t finished and still have a long way to go. They have to play there cards right in free agency with probably around 15M of cap room to work with, and there hopes of competing next season depend a lot on how well they will be able to fill the starting lineup and complete the team as a whole depth wise as well. The pieces are set in place, they know what they’re up against, and right now the pressure is soley on the GM and his ability to build a winner, and he’s up for the challenge.
