Started off as a FOF, but its really more of a Q and A. Thanks to those who participated.....
Will the Magic ever recover from trading AI away?
Hernando-Jason Richardson looks like he will be a top 10 player in BBS for years to come, but trading away Iverson is a franchise killer. With the new tanking rule in effect, his 2003 pick becomes way less valuable.
Duce-Yeah, the Magic will. I've seen Habes do it over and over again, and he's very good at getting a franchise off the ground. I'd like to see him stick to his own plan more often but you are who you are.
Reilly-- Yes, Habes is a great general manager and the trio of Raef/JRich/Dalembert gives him a great base. Though the three are good, he's going to still be bad enough to get another player in the 2003 draft, which will only add to his team.
Galo-Its possible. It is hard to gauge value for a player like AI because he is unique. But, in a couple years with some good drafts and FA signings, the Magic may be back in contention in the East.
Andy-Fact. It more then likely will take a few seasons to see some actual improvements but I don't see why it can't happen. Magic just have to make smart moves from here on out. It would help big time if they can land there own picks back but even if they can't, as long as they don't make any bad deals, they can recover.
Which team had the best offseason?
Hernando-Probably the Pistons. They pull of a complete steal for Chris Webber, and got the above mentioned Allen Iverson. Their starting lineup of Kidd Iverson McDyess Webber O’Neal is by far the best in the league, and on top of that they drafted and kept Joe Johnson. A subtle move, was the acquisition of John Stockton, which makes the once feared Timberwolves a possible #1 pick, which conveniently Aaron Reilly has.
Duce-Detroit easily did. Reilly added Iverson, Webber, Joe Johnson, Elden Campbell, and Stockton. He made himself an overwhelming favorite to win the championship.
Reilly-- Indiana Pacers, last year, Duce only had KG/Foyle. Now, after wheeling and dealing picks and players, he has a starting lineup of Miller/Finley/Hill/KG/Foyle, which gives him a legit shot at winning a championship.
Galo-You could argue for the Warriors here but I believe it is the Chicago Bulls. They picked up a superstar forward in Jamal Mashburn, drafted highly underrated forward in Hedo Turkoglu, and signed big man Shawn Bradley to help Brand up front. This team is one good point guard away from being in elite of the east.
Andy-Warriors. Any team that can go from last to 1st has to have had the best offseason. To be able to say something like that means you have to have had a damn good offseason. The Ray Allen deal I question but we can just ignore that.
What will be the biggest surprise of 2001?
Hernando-The Miami Heat and the Toronto Raptors. With the recent pickup of Jermaine O’Neal, the Heat now have 3 great options in O’Neal Gasol and Rip Hamilton. The Raptors on the other hand, are going to miraculously win some games this year! It seems as if the BBS Commish laid down the law, and is enforcing the coach of the team to actually put together a winning game plan.
Duce-Philadelphia. Not because they'll win of course, but because they'll be outstanding and upset Detroit. I just have a feeling it will happen.
Reilly-- The Detroit Pistons will not win the championship. As of now, the Pistons have the most talent in the short history of BBS, but strange things happen and I have a feeling they will not win.
Galo-The Raptors may still miss the playoffs in 2001. There are still doubts whether the coaching staff is utilizing players properly. In addition, the eastern conference is far superior to the west at this point. They may be in the lottery once again next year.
Andy-Spurs. I believe they have a lot of damn talent and I can see them challenge for the Midwest title. They have the talent but the question will come down to the DC's and if the GM can put it together and get the max out of them. Camby and Okur is a solid front court. VC, BD and Billups should be able to find some sort of role to play on this team or even be great trade bait.
Which GM will be the next to go? And who will their replacement be?
Hernando-Rockets gm should be the next to go... he isn't very active, his team seems to always be nothing more than mediocre, and he could have developed Lamar Odom very nicely, but didn’t add any height to him when he was eligible.
Duce-I think if Spence follows through on his word, that bossplaya will get the job. When you look at his roster and his championships in UOSL, that's really all the reputation you need. I don't think that any GMs will be gone soon though.
Reilly-- Jordan, from Milwaukee. Though he's a great GM, real life has caught up to him and he hasn't put forth the effort that is needed in the new BBS. His replacement is the young and hungry Jeremy. His activity and time in the league will help him...God help us all.
Galo-Scott of Cleveland Cavaliers or Jordan of the Milwaukee Bucks. It seems their activity has been a lower than usual and may be busy with their personal lives outside of BBS. Both good GMs but may be changed. Jeremy, assistant GM of the Lakers, may be next in line to take over one of those franchises.
Andy-Hard to say to be honest. If I had to take a wild guess, I say Ducky. I really don't know who will quit/be fired or why but there's my guess. As for who's the next to be hired, I say the Lakers assistant GM. He has been here for a while, been active. He should be given a shot and I believe he will be.
Will the Pistons surpass 70 wins?
Hernando-No. They had trouble doing it in the old BBS with the most dominant sim-lineup in history, so it will be hard to imagine them doing it here. They do however, have a legit chance at being the best team the new BBS has ever seen.
Duce-Nope. I don't think anyone can do that. Probably mid to high 60s.
Reilly-- No, the Pistons are a great team, but 70 wins is too much. Unfortunately, this team is not similar to the BBS Sonics of Magic, MJ, Barkley, Oden, Dream and there are to many fluke losses. 60-65 is more reasonable.
Galo-Fiction. The Pistons certainly have the most star studded line up in the league but their bench has not been honed yet. However, the will probably be addressed as the season goes on. For now, a realistic 60-65 wins is possible.
Andy-No. I don't see it happening. I do believe they can win a good amount of games but I don't see 70 happening. There are a good amount of talented teams in the league and plus you never know with injuries. It would take a hell of a lot of luck for it to even come close to happening but overall, I just don't see it.
Which FA signing will make the biggest difference?
Hernando-The Spurs keeping Chauncey Billups was the biggest signing this FA. Not only does it validate their trade with the Pistons, but in the new TC, he became C+ A B- A, which definitely gives him the opportunity to be the best PG in BBS. Also, with the explosive TC of Memo Okur, Billups should be able to feed it to him or VC, any chance he gets.
Duce-There were a few pretty big names but I really think Shawn Bradley will make the Bulls a lot harder to score on, so I'd say him.
Reilly-- Eddie Jones/SAR, the Timberwolves had one of the top teams, but losing two of their major stars to free agency has hurt the TWolves and made him go from contender to the cellar.
Galo-David Wesley of the Warriors. He is a threat on the perimeter and is overlooked because of Wade, and Marion. Should be a solid contributor as a starter or reserve and an asset to the Warriors.
Andy-SAR leaving Minny I guess would be it. Not only does it bring the Wolves down and improves the Mavs but it shakes up the West big time and we should see a regular season leader come out of the Midwest division and the Western Conference itself.
Which team will disappoint in 2001?
Hernando-Sacramento Kings. The Kings and their GM, David Byron Lumley CCXVI are bound for failure. We saw it in the original BBS, and we will see it again. The joints of their starters are aching, and they're so old they're beginning to forget their plays. The loss of MJ is also a killer for the Kings.
Duce-I think the Lakers will. I thought with Jermaine O'Neal they really had an awsome future. I'll never be a fan of big men who don't excel defensively and unfortunately I think Eddy Curry and Zach Randolph are exactly that.
Reilly-- The Detroit Pistons; again, I believe that the Pistons have the most talent, but I see the Pacers/Warriors/Nets being too much and beating them in the playoffs.
Galo-Boston Celtics. They have had a nice run the last couple years but they have gotten older, Penny has stayed the same, but the rest of the team has gotten older. This team might need to rebuild and replenish the roster with some youth.
Andy-Boston Celtics. Something about them just doesn't seem right. I feel they'll still be an alright team but I can see them losing 10 less games then last year. They do have 3 good players but if said players don't pull there weight then I can see them miss the playoffs altogether.
Who is the next superstar of the BBS?
Hernando-Pau Gasol and Jason Richardson. Gasol, now B+ C with B+ B defense and rebounding, will be a force to be reckon with in the next couple of years. Since he is only 21 years old, he will have many years to pound on some pounds in the weight room, which should give him some more force in the post. He should end up around B+ B- A- B+, as a SF/PF. Jason Richardson is already at B B inside/outside. He has about 4 more years of maturing, and could eventually develop into a A- B+ type player. The only thing holding him back, is his C+ defense, which hopefully will blossom into the B grade.
Duce-Dwyane Wade.
Reilly-Gilbert Arenas. He's a stud, had great ratings as a rookie, and will flourish in Toronto. With the amount of stars, Arenas will have many one on one opportunities, and should score in bunches.
Galo-Dwayne Wade of the Warriors. He will be an unstoppable force in the backcourt and hard to guard for any team. He is one of those franchise type players that you can build a team around. Not many like those in BBS yet.
Andy-Gilbert Arenas should be the obvious choice. He had an awesome TC and looks like he'll be well on his way to being a superstar. He looks like he should be an amazing scorer that can handle the ball and play a bit of D. He might even be able to drop 50 on the Blazers this time around.
Which draft prospect for the 2002 Draft most excites you?
Hernando-Yao Ming. The unknown giant China Man, has been waiting for the opportunity to come to the USA and feast on hamburgers and hotdogs. Ming can immediately step into the starting lineup, and be a #1 option, and top 5 big man in the league. Most GMs around the league seem to have the most interest in the high-schooler Amare Stoudemire, but Ming's unbelievable size will ultimately make him the #1 pick of the 2002 draft if he declares.
Duce-Amare for sure. He's athletically perfect and will be a superstar for years to come.
Reilly-- Everyone knows what Amare and Yao will bring, but, being the homer I am, I am looking forward to seeing how Tayshaun Prince develops. Prince is one of the better all around players in the NBA, and should end up being the same in BBS. But will he be a good player or a superstar?
Galo-Amare Stoudamire. He's big, he’s athletic, and is a monster on the boards and on the defensive end. Should also be very young when he comes out so he should have plenty of time to be even better.
Andy-Amare. He looks like he can easily be not only a franchise player but if he has a good first TC then an MVP candidate ala Brand. Unless LeBron comes out, Amare should easily be the 1st overall pick. Of course, this is all if he comes out. If he doesn't then oh well. I don't know then.
Who will win it all in 2001?
Hernando-Detroit. Their starting lineup is far and away the best in the league, and they avenge their first round surprise knockout last year, with a BBS Championship.
Duce-Everyone says Detroit, but I'm going with the 76ers. Ben and Dirk will shock the BBS world.
Reilly-- The finals will be between the Warriors and Pacers. Kevin Garnett will be too much for the Warriors, and the Pacers will win this year's championship.
Galo-The smart money is on the Pistons but if they are upset for some reason, the Pacers may have a chance to win it all as well. They need another big man to help them get through but have the talent right now to compete with the best of them.
Andy-Detroit Pistons. I'd love to say 76ers but I don't see it. Shaq, Webber, Dyess, AI and Kidd is a nasty starting line up. I'd be pretty shocked if they didn't win it all this year. Of course, injuries can play a part in this but we'll see what happens. They have a great starting lineup and a solid bench to go with said lineup.
Will the Magic ever recover from trading AI away?
Hernando-Jason Richardson looks like he will be a top 10 player in BBS for years to come, but trading away Iverson is a franchise killer. With the new tanking rule in effect, his 2003 pick becomes way less valuable.
