Team strengths:
Inside scoring, interrior defense, rebounding
Kevin Garnett, Grant Hill and Shawn Kemp dominate in this area. They get a lot of free throw attempts and shoot at a very high percentage from the field.
Garnett, Kemp and especially Adonal Foyle - one of the best shot blockers in the league - really do a great job of defending on the block and denying opposing teams the hoop.
K.G. and others bring it on the glass. Though the team may not be on the level of some of it's eastern conference rivals in this area.
All in all this team is exceptionally strong near the hoop, which is arguably the most important part of the game.
Team weaknesses:
Backcourt depth, perimeter shooting, efficiency
While this team has one or two outside shooters at best in Dee Brown and Toni Kukoc, and really Kukoc being the team's only good backup guard which is not his natural position, these are not big areas of concern.
There is worry about the team's efficiency. It's likely to be near the top of the league, but the expectations likely will not be met.
Franchise Player:
- Kevin Garnett
Perhaps the ultimate franchise player. K.G. can do it all, and the team will succeed only to the level he plays.
Trade Block:
Anyone but Garnett will always be a possibility. The team would like a scoring and efficient wing-player, and is hoping to find a way to fit Toni Kukoc into the rotation.
Season Outlook:
Indiana should at least make it to round 2 of the playoffs because of their balanced team. It will be interesting to see whether they can beat teams like Detroit and Philadelphia in a 7 game series. They are a contender but only a favorite to some.
