After 2 seasons of suffering and no post-season games, the Indiana Pacers finally came across a deal that they felt would have an impact on their franchise. At the cost of two picks in a good-looking draft class, the Pacers wasted no time taking advantage of the increase in cap room and added a quality wing man in Grant Hill.
When asked about his thoughts on the acquisition, Kevin Garnett was ecstatic, an attitude he's rarely expressed in his time with the team.
"We could have probably been content with taking a couple of rookies. Instead we have an all-star caliber guy, and a great team leader. As frustrating as the last couple of seasons have been, and as much as myself and others have doubted the front office's dedication, they really came through. From what I hear they may not even be done, but for now this is good. I'm very much looking forward to next season."
The combination of Garnett and Hill is intriguing on paper. They're high percentage scorers and love to attack the basket and create for their team mates. K.G. didn't seem to have any doubts about whether they could play together effectively.
"You never know what it's going to be like until practices and games happen but I'll tell you this, with all the damn shots and touches I got last year it's about damn time I got help. We're both unselfish with the ball and I don't see any problems happening."
With that all settled, the Pacers need to fill a couple of spots in the line-up to have a chance to contend for a championship. With their reluctance to make moves, it's a mystery as to whether they'll do what it takes. Their stingy reputation has not been popular with the fans or the media. Time will tell whether this team is a contender or pretender. So far though, they made the big man happy, and that alone was long overdue.
