Team strengths:
- scoring in all areas, rebounding, shot-blocking
With the additions for Tracy Hill, B.J. Armstrong, and Vernon Maxwell expect a lot more consistency. Hubert Davis and the perimeter players are a threat from outside, while Kevin Garnett and Adonal Foyle do a great job inside and get to the free throw line a lot. This is expected to be an all-around offense.
This team thrived off of rebounding and great post-defense last season. With the recent improvement of Garnett and Foyle, they should be now feared not only as post-players but also blockers - and improved rebounders.
Team weaknesses:
- perimeter defense, point guard production, backcourt
Hubert Davis sticks out like a sore thumb defensively. All of the Pacer perimeter players are one-dimentional offensive players and are medicore defenders. While a lot of this may be compensated for by Garnett and Hill's playmaking, as well as defensive pressure, this could - and most likely will - come back to haunt the Pacers in the post-season.
There is still some mystery as to who will be the point guard. B.J. Armstrong, Hubert Davis, Vernon Maxwell, Tracy Hill and Rodney Buford are all candidates. None of these are ideal and they all bring far less than what most teams want out of their point guards.
Franchise Player:
- Kevin Garnett
This goes without saying, as Garnett is a top 3 player is BBS. He is a 5-tool player. He dominates defensively and dominates on the boards. He puts up 25 points every night, and still creates for his teammates no matter how poor they are on paper. Kevin is the definition of a franchise player.
Trade Block:
The front office will shop everyone that isn't Kevin Garnett. The real aim here is to get young, quality starters for the future around him.
Season Outlook:
Look for the Pacers to at least get into the playoffs this season. There is no predicting how much damange they'll do there, but probably not much.
