GM Manas Rai went on the record with the following address:
"Friends, countrymen, Jazz supporters! Lend me your ears! Our performance last season should not be taken as indicative of what is to be expected from the Utah Jazz. Though expectations will continue to be high, I would like to point out some positive observations from last season and some hope for this year.
First off, the performance turned in by Brad Miller last season was as good as most centers in the league. Barring the likes of Shaq and Duncan, Miller is one of the best young big men in the league. Miller's passing ability gives him a unique dimension not possessed by most other C's - in the preseason he averaged 4.6 assists per game.
Second, the versatility of Jalen Rose was highlighted last season. Rose steadily improved his statistics and shooting percentages over the course of the season while splitting time at the 1, 2 and 3.
Of course, even with these two playing to the best of their abilities the Jazz finished with the sixth worst record in the league. This resulted in the drafting of Jason Terry from the University of Arizona.
While expectations for the upcoming season need to be tempered, one thing which can be promised is excitement. Look for Terry, Rose, and Miller to run like mad while playing any of a number of positions to create mismatches."
Very hopeful words from an optimistic GM. Lets see if there ends up being any validity behind his words.
