Yea, I never understood the whole 4+ gpa system... My high school was a maximum 4.0. We didn't have AP classes, because the administration thought we were "too good" for them. I wish we would have been able to take them for placing out of college classes. This is my high school: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dalton_SchoolShit man, your school has a ton of famous alumni. Look at the famous Alumni under Chevy Chase who is that guy?

Nova. Like, how can some schools say that a 4.0 is the highest even when it's possible to actually get a higher score? And why can you do extra things in or around the school for more grade points? IMO it makes no sense.
Our system basically goes as followed.
5 subjects in your final year, all get marked out of 50
Each subject you do 3 'tests' per semester and 1 'exam' per semester. So in total, 6 'tests' and 2 'exams'. The exams coutn for 75% of your total mark in that subject, 25% comes from tyour 6 tests.
Once you recieve your Study score for each subject out of 50, your best 4 subjects are chosen and 10% of your worst subjects score is chosen, added up and then divided to give you a score out of 100. Thats it, it's state wide, nothinge extra.
If you get say 93.15 as a score, it means that you finished in the top 6.75% in the state. Likewise, if you get a score of 49.50, then you finished in the bottom 49.5% of the state.
Universities then say "if you want to study engineering, your score has to be above 94.5" etc... Simple and easy.

On college apps, the college likes to look at your extra curricular activities that you do outside of school and within the school, such as clubs, sports, community service, etc... Some say it helps you if you have a lot of that stuff.

the American system is not that complicated... 4.0 is basically all A's. Anything more than that is due to weighted classes (Honors, AP, etc)

You only get extra points through classes, not extra-curriculars.

Okay cool. I went to this school in the States and one of the kids was failing 'gym'. The teacher told him that if he went out and ran 3 laps he'd give him extra points for him to pass.
I lol'd.
