what does it matter if the Yanks can overpay to have Pettitte? He was in their system all along, spent some time in Hou, sure, but the Yankees pay whatever they can to keep their good players in pinstripes...and for that reason, the players know the Yankees have the MEANS to pay them, and will get that money. who else would pay Posada 13M a year? or Rivera 15M...it's the hometown reward...
if anything they "bought" Giambi and Moose

Ehh Johan is going to Boston it seems... it pains me how Boston will be giving up a whole lot less than the Yanks, Lester, Crisp, and Lowrie, and are leading the Santana negotiations with the Twins. I'm all for the Yanks dealing either Hughes/Kennedy, Melky, and some prospects but is dealing both Hughes and Kennedy worth it, even though they havn't pitched full seasons? Thoughts?

The yanks wont deal both, and they will be stupid to deal Hughes and Melky for him. He is johan but still they should realize that by now going through your farm system and building your team like that is the way to win, not by trading for these guys.
Santana has not done anything in the playoffs, and they Yankees always hit him when they played him, I hope they do not agree to the Yankees trade.
