I love that he had the balls to do this. They jerked him around for so long. Good for him.

i dont think abreu is staying arod jorge and mo are a must. I think mattingly is going to be the manager . for better or for worse. I think he has a good baseball mind but his lack of experience may hurt

I would rather have girardi, don is just inexperienced at this point I think, maybe he could take over in a couple seasons. As for people staying and going, Andy i think will be gone, i hope some of these guys stay though, it would suck to see alot of them go all at once.

Mattingly would be a good choice, but the Yanks would have to be patient with him, and I'm not sure if Steinbrenner (or whoever's running the show now) can be because they've been spoiled with so much winning.

I don't know why Mattingly would be a good choice. He has shown nothing other than being able to hit a baseball. If you want to develop a manager, especially if you're the Yankees, you let him manage in the minors or (and I don't even like this idea) let him be a bench coach for more than a year. Being a bench coach is not managing. Now they're going to throw hm in the fire? Why? Because he was a great hitter? I don't understand that option. I don't think Girardi is nearly as great as some think, but he's by far the better candidate between the two.

The bench coach has the all important job of doing a lot of nothing. And Mattingly sucks and has no preparation other than a career as a Yankee, which is really not a qualification at all considering how woeful the Yanks were.

Wow.
I can't believe that the Yankees are actually wanting people to believe that they wanted Joe back. I don't care what anyone says, actions speak louder than words.
No GM is going to want to get a one year contract. Just so he can be in the same situation a year from now. Secondly, to put in the contract incentives is a slap in the face to Joe, after 12 years he has lost motivation to win? Now money drives Joe? Also, anytime you offer an employee less money you obviously are not happy with him.
Sure the incentives add up to 7 million or more or whatever but it's not the point, the point is that you cut someone guaranteed salary and obviously you are not happy with that employee's performance or you wouldn't offer him less guaranteed money.
And another thing. If the Yankees had wanted Joe back so bad why didn't they negoiate with him? I don't care who you are if you really want someone/something you will not say take it or leave it, you will be willing to negoiate some. Maybe with their new manager they can do the incentive thing, but I don't think it was appropiate to do that with Joe, JMO though.
And who the hell are the Yankees going to get that is better than Joe, especially for their team? DM? I think not. Girardi? Not good with veterans, and didn't he overuse I guess you could say, some of his pitches before? Maybe not but I was thinking that there were some talks that he did.
I think that the Yankees need to bring in a new face. Someone who isn't proven because I think that about anyone that they can bring in will not have the resume as Joe.
