If you were given the reigns of an NBA team, do you think you can run it well? At least better than guys like Ainge, Isiah, Billy Knight, etc.?

i dunno if i can, i'd like to see if you can lol.
well, if you take most of the complicated accounting out of the picture and basically dumbed it down to the way this FBB game is then i think i would do a decent job. but it's way harder to complete a trade in the NBA than just simply posting it up i believe? i don't know, i definitely don't sit here and pretend i'm on the NBA GM level like that.

I think there are many guys on here that are more than capable of doing it. The concepts on the CBA are pretty easy to understand if you sit down and look at them. We all seem to understand talent ,and, especially because of FBB and BBS, have a basic understanding the salary cap structure the NBA uses.

I also think the successful teams have plans and stick to them.
The unsuccessful teams just don't seem to stick to plans, similar to BBS. I believe teams have to lay out 5 year plan, stick with it and go. Teams like Boston and Memphis just can't make up their mind.

I think I could, but of course, that is probably the dream job for all of us, so I might be biased, heh.

I'm not sure. I think its hard to tell how well each of the Gms really would communicate in a given situation, and much like any management position, communication is gonna be key. I think in time, given more experience quite a few of the guys in this league could do a very good job.

If you're a dork like me and enjoy the business aspect of basketball, this is an amazing website. members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htmIt's an easy to read summary of the CBA. Gives examples, makes things clear for difficult parts of the CBA.

I think i would be a top GM. Im not even joking. It wouldnt just be a hobby it would be my job. A job that i would love doing. I would then i would hire Reilly and Krup to be my assistants. If you truly understand a job and love what your doing then anybody can be great at it.

I really feel some NBA GMs have no clue what the hell they are doing... So in saying that, I wouldn't be surprised if one of us ended up being a decent NBA GM.

Very tough to say.
There are a lot of factors that we don't have a clue about. You can't even begin to compare being a BBS GM to being an NBA Gm either.
In the NBA it's tough to make trades. You won't just be able to stock pile draft picks or young talent. You really have to build a good team. Every move you make will matter. You head coach, your assistant coaches, every player you sign, draft or trade for will truly count. You also must consider ownership you have to deal with and anyone else in the office that has a say in basketball decisions, you will have to compromise.
I think that there are defiantly people that are on here that could do it but it's just far more difficult to have success in the NBA then success in the BBS.
One thing about Knight, Ainge, and Thomas is that they didn't walk into great situations. Knight has done a good job of drafting players, they have a tough ownership situation so he has been a little limited I think he has done a great job of giving that team talent though. They look great for the future. Thomas is an excellant guy to have making draft decisions. He is why the Pacers took Fred Jones and he has made some great draft choices with the Knicks. He defiantly has a hard time putting together a basketball team that complaments eachother however to be fair to IT he seems to make moves to try and win and he was handed a bad deck of cards. Ainge messed up some things in Boston, IMO he never should have traded Antoine Walker the first time, however with Allen and Garnett now on board he has made up for it.
The one GM who has done a awful job and should not be a GM is Kevin McHale. If Donnie Walsh wasn't holding Larry Bird's hand then Bird would be right next to McHale IMO.
So it's easy to be looking from the outside and point the figure I guess but being a successful NBA GM is so much more complicated than being a BBS GM. It would be an awesome job but a very difficult one.
