Ehhh I dont think its too great of an article, I think the author is flawed in his thinking. So yes the Shaun Livingstons are set for life but what about all those high school players who go for the draft who become nothing, this is who the minimum age rule is suppose to protect not lotto picks getting paid 8 mill in guaranteed money right off the bat. And who is this guy to say that his "knee was destined to fail." Their so many different varibles involved that no one can make that statement.

College is something that while yes, it's a great experience for everyone, but then again it's not for everyone, nor is it something you need to do RIGHT after highschool. I have many friends parents, who dropped out of college, went back in their mid 20s some in their 30s, and now all have substantially good jobs, one is actually a millionaire. The point that he's trying to make is that these kids come out more time than not for monetary purposes. I think it's dumb for kids comeing out of HS knowing they aren't 1st round talent, it's a risk they take, but these HS who come out 1st round are guaranteed atleast a million dollars a year. Think about it. It's not 8million dollars, sure, but a million dollars? Now tell me, name more than 5 legitimate jobs that you can take right after college that have that type of salary. Exactly.

Very funny you posted this article; I was talking to my friends about this today at lunch.
I'm for coming out. As indicated in the article, college is something you can do at anytime. My main argument is a large percentage of these kids come from shitty backgrounds. Most likely these kids are the only hope for their families to make some money, and to turn down a chance at millions is difficult for some to do, when lots grew up in poverty.
Sure, there are insurance policies that can be taken in the case of injury, but I have to imagine the chance at money is too difficult for poor people to pass up.

That's what I mean, academically Amare Stoudemire wouldn't be able to play in a big time DIV I college, hell he might have been relegated to a Community College... 9 times out of 10, these kids come out because they have to.

Yeah, I read this before it was posted and agree 100%. If the kids are honestly that talented to get themselves a contract that will set them for life, than props to them.
