I have been discussing this idea with Josh Steinkamp (Giants Owner) this evening, and I think we have developed a possible plan that will allow more organization to the league.
As many of you have noted and, quite frankly, we can all see clear as day, the league seen a downward trend since Duce's departure. From an organizational standpoint, especially.
Mike stepped to the plate, and graciously took over as Commissioner. Something we are all thankful for and truly appreciate. But, when he did that, he took on a lot of responsibility. As I have said previously, to be a good Commissioner, you must be organized, dedicated, and available. You have the most important job in the league. The job you do in that position can make or break a league. Once owners begin to lose interest, it's only a matter of time before the wheels come off the bus, and your league becomes extinct.
Both Josh and myself (Bob Bednarko, Nationals Owner) have agree to jointly take over as Co-Commissioner's of the BBSBL, should Mike agree to relinquish his duties.
Both Josh and I have extensive experience in OOTP play, especially Josh who was previously Commissioner of the now defunct APBL, a highly successful OOTP5 league that I was a part of for several seasons. Mr. Steinkamp has the knowledge needed for the position and together, we will bring stability, trust, and a structure to this league.
Should this idea go through, Josh and I will be making one big change in the way the league's activities are run. We will look to institute 3 sims a week, most likely on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Josh and I will rotate simming responsibilities and be each other's right hand man.
We are both generally available on IM often, so reaching us for questions and concerns should not be a problem.
Again, this is simply an idea we are throwing out there. Mike has done an admirable job as Commissioner, and this is not, in any way, an attempt to downplay what he has done for the league. I just feel that for this league to continue to be successful, it may be time for a change.
I would like to hear from as many owners on this as possible. Any feedback is gladly welcomed. A league is only as strong as it's members.

I agree. Mike stepped up when the league was about to fold and i think its safe to say that we are all VERY thankfull for that. However, there have been some problems that have not been fixed during the past weeks and i agree with Bob that a change is needed. I really like the experience that Bob and Josh would bring to the league as Co-Commissioners. They obiuosly know OOTP better than all of us and i think it would only help the league and make it better as time goes on. The only thing i dont like is the 3 sims a week. I know you guys have a busy schedule and if theres no possible way we can do 4 sims per week then 3 it is. Also, adding to what Bob said, Mike you have done an "admirable" job but i belive a change must be made.

This is the right move for the league, and I'm glad two guys of experience are willing to save the day. Mike's a good guy, but there have been some questionable happenings and, more importantly, some severe organizational failures. Luckily, interest level hasn't faded, but the state of the league must improve.
My onnly problem is that, frankly, reducing the pace to three sims a week is the last thing we need. I love this league, and I'm not worried about its future, but I think slowing things down would only serve to harm activity. Once again, I think replacing Mike is a necessary move, and I'm thankful you guys are willing to invest so much time in this league to stabilize it, so if three sims is all you guys can do a week, I understand--I just want to point out the potential repercussions of reducing the pace.

I have no problem with this at all. Maybe you could even keep Mike in some capacity, but that's up to him and you guys. I have to give Mike some props for doing something that most of didn't do want to do, which is stepping up to the plate and replacing duce as commish. Have no experience with OOTP didn't make it any easier. However, ever since duce left, the structure of the league has been shaky. You guys should help restore what we had and hopefully even more.

Mike, it's plain and simple. You tried, but couldn't put it together. The sims never went up on time, and the uploads rarely worked. Rosters were always a sim behind, player pages got neglected--nothing was improving. The league can't function with that.

You've never asked for my advice or opinion, once (I even offered my help in the co-commissioner thread bballsim06.proboards89.com/index.cgi?board=generalbbsbl&action=display&thread=1197485488 with backing from Bob) and nothing was ever said or mentioned to me. I've offered a few minor suggestions and you blew me off, and said Duce told you to do it this way or that. Then, funny thing is when I asked Duce he said he never told you that. When I would present him with something he would agree with me and talk to you, and boom you would accept it from him. I'm very hesitant about running a league - ask Bob, we spoke about this in depth. When I shut down my league it was because I didn't have the time to commit to the league. I love being just a GM, as the time required is minimal compared to being a commish. Also, as Duce said in the past, being commissioner is a thankless job. I just didn't want to see the league fold as I have enjoyed my return to OOTP - much more so in the previous season than now. There were several owners who were on the verge of leaving (admittedly myself being one) in addition to the few that have already left. It's not that I didn't like you - I had absolutely no problems with you last season. To say that I don't like you so I want to take over is complete BS, but you're going to say what you're going to say, so whatever. I don't want to turn this into personal attacks. The truth is that Bob said he was going to step up and offer to take over to try to turn the league around, and I said that it had crossed my mind as well. He may in fact run the league with me in an advisory/assistant role as I was more hesitant than he. However we may well likely split duties down the middle in an attempt to make it less stressful and time consuming to each of us. A note about the frequency of sims - that is something I mentioned to Bob and wondering if you guys would like 3 a week. I know many of you want it to move faster, but there are several in here who were in my league which ran 3 days a week - initially 5 days per sim the first season then moving to alternating 7-8-7-8. That setup covers a month and a half of season every 2 weeks (instead of the current 2 months every 2 weeks) and isn't a bad pace. So the difference isn't huge, and I would hope people could addapt if this move occurs, as I have adapted to a faster pace than I have been accustomed to in other leagues. I simply could not commit to more than that. Mike, I thank you for stepping up and putting the time in to keep this league moving. It's just not moving in the right direction, in my opinion, and from speaking to other league members I just do not want to see this thing die.

I'm still a fan of 4 sims a week but if 3 sims at 7-8 games per sim works best for you, then its fine with me. As long as the sims run smoothly, whether its 3 or 4 and activity goes up, I'll be happy. Also, anyone know when OOTP 6 will be free, it looks pretty good?

I'm down for whatever is best for the league, and although Mike has improved of late with uploading, overall he doesn't seem to have what it takes to commish. The new Marlin owner has been a fiasco. New GMs, especially when you are new to the game, should have some sort of learning curve. Allowing him to deal his 2 best players within the first couple hours is just ridiculous IMO. Also not setting up a forum ID at least just screams of unorthodox behavior.
I very much appreciate all the work Mike has done, but hopefully he wont mind stepping down and resuming his role as the Red Sox GM.

I think that this is a must for this league to survive. Mike has done a pretty good job with stepping up when Duce left, but now that we can see he is not right for the job, it was time for a change.
Thanks too these two guys the league will be able to survive and last longer. Thanks a lot guys for stepping up to the plate and helping out the league. I think we all know it will be in good hands.
Mike, We have all tried to help you, you can not put that on us for not giving you advice when we tried to help. I know I have asked you to talk to people or do things but you were busy, is that our fault? No, Mike, you could not handle this job, so it is time to move on.

Ok, to keep everyone up to date what is going on, next week the changeover is set to occur.
Mike has agreed to do the simming for tonight (Sunday) and tomorrow (Monday).
After that time, everything will be turned over to myself and Josh and as of Tuesday, January 8th, 2008, we will be the new Co-Commissioner's.
Please post any and all questions and we will answer in a timely fashion.

Also, after Monday's sim, Mike will also be resigning his position as General Manager of the Boston Red Sox. If you have anyone in mind that would like to join a very active OOTP league, please contact myself or Josh.

When I get back to school, around the 20th, there may be another kid on my floor that may be interested in GMing one of the teams. I don't know if that is too late but just a thought.
